About The Position

AST is seeking an experienced Cable Technician to install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber-optic and Ethernet cabling; install network equipment; and support wireless systems. The successful candidate will have at least five years of relevant cabling experience, familiarity with Ekahau AI Pro, and the ability to perform Wi-Fi surveys and heat mapping. This position requires approximately 75% travel and a valid U.S. driver’s license.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience installing and terminating fiber-optic and Ethernet cabling, including Cat5/Cat6.
  • Experience testing and troubleshooting cabling and documenting installation results.
  • Experience installing racks, patch panels, switches, servers, and workstations.
  • Familiarity with Ekahau AI Pro and demonstrated ability to perform Wi-Fi surveys and heat mapping.
  • Familiarity with installing and configuring Cisco Meraki, Aruba, or comparable Wi-Fi access points.
  • Proficiency in Wi-Fi installation requirements and in reading technical drawings and reviewing building plans for cabling and security setup accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint or similar collaboration tools.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license, with the ability to drive within the assigned state and between project locations.
  • Willingness and ability to meet the approximately 75% travel requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Install, route, terminate, label, test, and troubleshoot fiber-optic and Cat5/Cat6 Ethernet cabling.
  • Install and organize patch panels, racks, cabinets, cable pathways, and associated infrastructure.
  • Perform rack-and-stack installation of switches, servers, patch panels, and related equipment, including workstation installation and connectivity.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot Wi-Fi access points, including Cisco Meraki, Aruba, or comparable products.
  • Conduct Wi-Fi site surveys and generate heat maps using Ekahau AI Pro to evaluate coverage, signal strength, interference, and coverage gaps.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, network diagrams, and building plans; review them for accuracy and verify that cabling and security installations align with approved designs.
  • Conduct onsite inspections to assess installation readiness, identify deficiencies, and coordinate scheduling of testing services.
  • Attend security and project coordination meetings and provide technical expertise regarding cabling, installation, and Wi-Fi configuration.
  • Create and maintain installation records, cable test results, survey reports, equipment inventories, and updated drawings.
  • Use Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint or similar collaboration tools to prepare documentation and coordinate work.
  • Travel to project locations and drive between work sites as required.
