About The Position

This is a Contract to Hire position for a Level 1 Cable Technician. The role involves various aspects of cable installation and management in both office and construction environments. The technician will be responsible for pulling cable, assisting higher-level technicians, managing materials, and utilizing tools for installation tasks. Key duties include laying out and installing wireway, buss duct, cable tray, switches, receptacles, and other devices. Building closets involves mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding. The position also requires completing IDC connections, such as terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels, and operating tools that normally require two hands.

  • Sitting, use of hands and arms, verbal communication, and occasional physical movement such as stooping or kneeling
  • Frequently required to stand and walk
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Regularly carry and climb ladders to 20 feet
  • Able to operate equipment such as scissor lifts, telehandlers, boom lifts, and UTVs (buggies) if required to do so
  • May also be required to work in tight and confined spaces

Responsibilities

  • Cable installing, cable dressing, labeling, material management for cable installing (copper and fiber)
  • Pull cable

  • Climb ladders
  • Layout and install wireway, buss duct, cable tray, switches receptacles and other devices
  • Build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware)
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required
  • Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels)
  • Pulls wire and/or oversees and directs conduit installations and wire pulling
  • Operates tools/equipment, normally requiring the use of two hands (examples: cable cutters, hammer drills, compression tools, jack hammers, etc.)
