The Underground Cable Splicer is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. This role involves working safely on energized and de-energized underground systems, potentially leading crews in the absence of a Foreman, and conducting pre-job briefings. The position requires a working knowledge of all aspects of underground distribution, including frequent work with energized high voltage systems, operation of a backhoe, and safe operation/maintenance of company equipment. Key responsibilities include identifying primary and secondary voltage, switching and splicing, understanding induced voltage, using tools for cable termination, understanding grounding procedures, obtaining a one-shot on a recloser, working in confined spaces with an understanding of the requirements, properly installing and removing PPE and cover-up, understanding underground services, infrastructure, and duct banks, knowledge of underground switching procedures, phasing out a line using phasing sticks, planning safe work based on job prints or work orders, promoting safety, and inspecting rubber goods and PPE. The role also involves inspecting the work of crew members and performing other related duties as required.
