About The Position

The Cabinet Designer creates cabinet designs and material lists from blueprints, photos or drawings sent from local store locations and regionally assigned locations. This role involves interpreting blueprints, preparing detailed cabinet designs using 20/20 software, providing 3D renderings, and generating final quotes according to McCoy's Estimating and NKBA standards. The designer will ensure the completeness and accuracy of designs and material lists, consult with clients and vendors, and assist retail store employees with product information and blueprint-related questions. The position also requires attending team meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Reads and interprets documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Writes routine reports and correspondence and speaks effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Calculates figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry and performs/comprehends basic business and financial calculations.
  • Carries out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and deals with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Strong multi-tasking, organizational, prioritization, and follow-up skills necessary for managing multiple projects at one time in a professional manner and under minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in company point-of-sale system (MAC21), Microsoft Word & Excel, estimating software (PreBuilt ML), cabinet design software (20/20 design) and other 3rd party software applications.
  • Must have a current driver’s license and auto liability insurance.
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Design knowledge to include NKBA standards and be up to date on trends to calculate necessary information for an accurate design and quote.
  • Knowledge and understanding of reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and IBM Cognos experience.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and interprets blueprints of prospective and current customers and prepares full cabinet designs on projects as required by client’s documents utilizing 20/20 software.
  • Provides complete 3-D renderings and a final quote per McCoy’s Estimating standards and NKBA standards.
  • Reviews designs, material lists and revisions for completeness and accuracy.
  • Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
  • Ensures material list results in the most complete estimates possible while ensuring financial objectives are met.
  • Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Generates designs for individual projects based on standard, local building codes, NKBA standards and submits full design and materials lists to the store(s) in a timely manner.
  • Ensures quality customer service through personal and/or phone interaction with retail store employees.
  • Assists retail store employees with product information and answers questions as necessary, including product usage and application, and/or blueprint changes or edits.
  • Consults with customers regarding questions or concerns on blueprints and materials lists.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings and training sessions.
