About The Position

The Cabin Leader is a temporary, full-time, exempt position responsible for attending and participating in evening programs and spiritual activities, maintaining cleanliness in personal living quarters, and assisting with camper check-in/check-out and camp clean-up. This role involves enforcing camp policies, ensuring safety, coordinating program components, leading campers in daily activities and chores, guiding devotion times, managing camper behavior, and participating in all-camp activities. The Cabin Leader is also responsible for the health and well-being of themselves and their assigned campers, including personal hygiene and escorting campers to the nurse as needed. The position requires a commitment to The Salvation Army's mission and a positive attitude.

Requirements

  • Personal relationship and commitment to Jesus Christ.
  • 18+ years of age.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification (may be obtained on site).
  • Experience providing childcare and supervision.
  • Ability to use positive behavior management techniques with campers.
  • Ability to adapt to difficult situations with a sense of maturity and safety.
  • Maintain a high standard of Christian personal living and behaviors.
  • Be supportive of The Salvation Army’s mission.
  • Ability to reflect and model the high standards of The Salvation Army.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead.

  • Ability to access and produce information from the computer.
  • Ability to understand written information.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate in evening programs and spiritual activities.
  • Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and living quarters.
  • Assist with the clean-up of the total camp at the end of each session and at the conclusion of the summer.
  • Assist with Camper check-in and check-out.
  • Enforce, and abide by, all camp policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the utmost level of safety for staff and campers at all times.
  • Practice and enforce all camp safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with American Camping Association standards of safety and programmatic conduct.
  • Coordinate and implement all program components relative to the daily schedule in a timely fashion.
  • Attend trainings and weekly staff meetings.
  • Lead assigned campers in daily camp activities.
  • Participate with and guide cabin group in morning, afternoon, and evening activities throughout the week.
  • Participate with and guide cabin group in all opening and closing activities.
  • Lead campers in camp chores, including daily cabin clean up, sweeping, making beds, hanging wet clothing, meal clean up, washing dishes, dumping trash, wiping down tables, and weekly group capers.
  • Lead and participate in group devotion times, activity discussions, and praise and worship.
  • Be present and on time for morning devotion (quiet time).
  • Plan and lead group devotions daily.
  • Manage camper behavior, including proactive measures to keep positive group interaction and addressing behavior that needs management.
  • Maintain group control at specialized group activities.
  • Participate in “all-camp” activities and large group activities, including Monday group games, and Monday and Friday camp fires.
  • Be responsible for the health and well-being of self and assigned campers.
  • Allow campers time to take care of personal hygiene including, showers, brushing teeth, etc.
  • Escort campers to the nurse for daily medications.
  • Escort campers to the nurse to treat injuries or illness outside of your level of care or training.
  • Perform all other duties and roles assigned.
  • Comply with all reasonable requests for the smooth operation of the camp.

Benefits

  • Sick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick time accrual is pro-rated for part-time hours.)
