About The Position

Performs computerized tomography scans. Performs specialized procedures including biopsies, aspirations and drainages.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology, Radiation Therapy or Nuclear Medicine
  • Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists with a Post Primary certification in Computed Tomography
  • Possess a South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association license

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for adolescent (13-17 years), adult (18-65 years), and geriatric (over 65 years) patients.
  • Observes patient condition in the CT Department and contacts appropriate personnel when necessary. Recognizes emergency patient conditions and initiates appropriate care.
  • Prepares patients for CT procedures, using universal precautions.
  • Provides pertinent information to the radiologist to contribute to the plan of care.
  • Discusses CT procedures with patients, obtains consent forms, and ensures patient understanding.
  • Obtains optimum quality CT scans with appropriate measurements, windows, and other special functions for radiologist interpretation.
  • Monitors intravenous contrast injections using a CT injector.
  • Provides radiation protection in accordance with state and federal standards.
  • Assists radiologists with biopsies, aspirations, drainages, and other specialty procedures requiring aseptic techniques.
  • Initiates patient charging for CT procedures, contrast, and supplies in the Hospital EMR.
  • Makes appropriate technical or patient-related decisions within scope of ability and notifies appropriate personnel.
  • Assists in quality control of equipment by contacting appropriate personnel and notifying the department supervisor.
  • Electronically sends images to the appropriate destination, including PACS.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the CT Department and equipment, uses proper cleaning techniques, disposes of contaminated needles properly, and maintains adequate stock of linen and supplies.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned or required in an emergency.
  • Practices and implements good service excellence, showing care and concern for patients, and attempting to relieve patient anxiety.
  • Proficient in starting IVs and injecting contrast for certain procedures.
