About The Position
Old Mission is seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our Research Infrastructure team. The team is responsible for managing and maintaining datasets, infrastructure, and libraries that power the firm's research activities across a huge number of instruments in nearly all asset classes - a vast data universe of Equities, Options, Commodities, Bonds, and more. Our day to day consists of handling production issues, developing new datasets, building next-generation infrastructure, and maintaining our data pipelines. This person will sit in our Chicago office.
Requirements
- Experience with C++ (required) and Python (preferred)
- 4+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Platform Engineer, Data Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar - "Big Data" experience preferred
- Ability to drive and lead technical projects as well as mentor junior engineers
- Knowledge of software engineering practices - what makes code reusable and extensible
- Passion for infrastructure: building internal tooling and frameworks
- Experience with Linux APIs – filesystems, networking, processes management, etc.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
Nice To Haves
- Experience with the design and implement big data tooling to support cluster computing and high-throughput computing tasks is a plus
- Experience developing big data technology, preferably complete rebuilds is a plus
Responsibilities
- Designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines and data infrastructure
- Capturing, archiving, storing, and indexing data for the entire firm
- Designing and implementing big data tooling to support cluster computing and high-throughput computing tasks
- Solving problems relating to how data is transmitted between C++ and Python
- Re-architecting current APIs to ensure scalability and performance improvements
- Collaborating in the release process, including rolling out new releases, debugging and maintenance of systems
- Identifying and implementing strategies for upgrading the current data storage capacity
- Using a combination of technical expertise and analytical skills to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of our data infrastructure
- Focusing on solving tough problems using research and data and spending time solving these problems utilizing modern technologies
