The Class C Lineman Underground constructs, maintains, and repairs energized and de-energized underground electrical distribution systems, with safety as a primary focus. The role includes working on underground facilities and conductors, troubleshooting and locating faults on primary and secondary systems, and learning switching, tagging, grounding, induced-voltage, and live-line procedures under direct supervision. The lineman may work in confined spaces near energized equipment, operate excavation and pulling equipment, and travel to different job sites, including out-of-state assignments, as operational and customer needs dictate. The position also requires availability for outage, storm, and emergency work, including on-call rotations and work outside normal business hours. Work takes place outdoors at construction job sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Employees are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration; job sites can be loud. The role requires communicating by talking, listening, and hand signals, as well as standing, walking, handling objects, operating tools or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
