About The Position

Under general supervision of the Materials Manager, the Buyer is responsible for purchasing medical and non-medical supplies, equipment and purchased services to support hospital operations. Performs a variety of duties including inventory management, sourcing, invoice/purchase order discrepancies, contract price review and other duties as assigned. Purchases and negotiates materials, equipment, and supplies from vendors. Evaluates vendor quotes and services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current, valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent organizations skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in hospital materials management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Purchases, tracks, and ensures timely delivery of procured items and services.
  • Monitors and maintains approved minimum and maximum inventory levels as part of the overall organizational inventory strategy.
  • Accurately communicates and acts as a liaison between receiving and storeroom functions.
  • Identifies, qualifies, sources, obtains quotes, and negotiates quantities and pricing from potential vendors.
  • Helps manage the interaction with vendors that ensures contractual obligations are being satisfied.
  • Works to ensure GPO alignment is achieved in order to realize savings and efficiencies.
  • Proficient in the Materials Management module, creates item masters, vendor masters and performs various inventory transactions.
  • Logs and files Special Request forms, vendor product information, invoice discrepancies, service reports by vendor, all standing orders, maintenance and service agreements, contracts, and rental agreements in vendor and monthly standing order file.
  • Ensures accurate and efficient procure-to-pay processes with Accounts Payable.
  • Creates and maintains seamless communication across department and organization. Proactively communicates with staff on delivery status on outstanding orders. Communicates all back orders and anticipated delivery dates.
  • Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  • Performs all other related functions as directed.
