Requirements

• Negotiating material costs
• Obtaining local contracts for production supplies
• Communicating and managing the timely arrival of purchased materials
• Working with supply base and internal departments to ensure proper inventory levels are achieved
• Expediting or cancelling materials when needed
• Coordinating the return of defective materials
• Reviewing and directing the work of lower level employees

Responsibilities

• Placing purchase orders, expediting, cancelling, and deferring materials and orders with suppliers
• Providing forecast information to suppliers
• Working with internal departments and supply base on the return and coordination of defective material; coordinates the charge-back of labor incurred by replacing defective material to suppliers
• Mentoring and training less experienced employees on departmental processes and procedures; serving as back-up to Senior Buyer as necessary
