About The Position

Tata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC) with its headquarters at 1000, Sherbrooke W., Suite 1120, Montreal (Quebec), operates iron ore mines in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec. TSMC is a joint venture between Tata Steel Limited and New Millennium Capital Corp. Tata Steel, part of the Tata Group of Companies, is one of the world’s top 10 steel producers and a Fortune 500 company. We are currently seeking a Buyer to join our team based out of the corporate office located in downtown Montreal, QC. Reporting to the Chief - Procurement, the incumbent will be responsible for the procurement of services, sourcing of materials and issuing of purchase orders while minimizing commercial risk and enhancing competitive advantage. This role will also involve occasional traveling to our mine site in Labrador.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in procurement and contract administration.
  • Proven track record in negotiating contracts and achieving cost savings.
  • Experience in supplier analysis, evaluation, and relationship management.
  • Strong background in inventory management and reconciliation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) with advanced data analysis and visualization skills.
  • Experience with SAP and materials management systems is a MUST.
  • Bilingual in French and English with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to TSMC mine sites in Labrador as required.

  • Preference for candidates with experience in mining, mineral beneficiation, or related heavy industries.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end procurement of goods and services, priority is for spares, consumables, and MRO materials.
  • Execute and manage purchase orders, contracts, and vendor agreements.
  • Negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery schedules to achieve cost reductions and procurement efficiencies.
  • Conduct supplier research, evaluation, and selection in line with company procurement policies.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance and compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate with inventory control and warehouse teams to ensure optimal stock levels.
  • Support inventory reconciliation processes and resolve discrepancies.
  • Work closely with maintenance and operations teams to anticipate material requirements.
  • Analyze procurement data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Develop cost-saving and procurement optimization strategies using data-driven insights.
  • Prepare and present procurement reports and dashboards using MS Excel and visualization tools.
  • Utilize SAP and other material management software for procurement, tracking, and reporting.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation and data entry in procurement systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Maintenance, Operations, Finance, and Logistics.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal governance controls, safety regulations, and ethical standards.
