About The Position

While upholding Hoyt’s Policies and Mission and Values Statement, the Junior Buyer is responsible for procurement of supplies, materials, and services for Hoyt to provide optimum value for the company.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of computers and software packages such as word processing and excel.
  • Basic knowledge of supply chain management.
  • Writing skills to be able to properly communicate procedures, memos, contract terms, and quality issues.
  • Interpersonal skills including the ability to tactfully direct the work of others as well as outside the department and suppliers.
  • Negotiation skills
  • Basic math skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Associates Degree in Business or related field required
  • Purchasing experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • 1-3 years of commodity experience.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. degree preferred.
  • Additional training and professional development through seminars and involvement in a professional association is encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ordering and timely delivery of products and services: Uses forecast generated from Production planning to create Purchase Orders for inventoried items based on requirements.
  • Places orders with suppliers, confirms/negotiates pricing and delivery, and enters the purchase orders into Manage 2000.
  • Reviews delivery dates of all open purchase orders and communicates with suppliers to ensure materials are received when needed.
  • Works closely with Accounts Payable and Receiving departments to research and resolve quantity and/or pricing discrepancies on invoices.
  • Supports the production floor with its immediate materials needs.
  • Determines action/s required and acts accordingly. Actions might include expediting parts, locating parts in house, counting inventory, identifying / resolving root cause.
  • Negotiates pricing, freight terms and credit terms with suppliers.
  • Works closely with Suppliers to ensure the proper amount of inventory is being ordered.
  • Adjusts inventory levels up and down with seasonality trends and forecast requirements to ensure the proper amount of inventory.
  • Works closely with suppliers to understand and reduce lead times.
  • Review requisitions, place purchase orders for all non-inventory needs.
  • Works closely with Engineering during new product design and implementation.
  • Recommends current suppliers or sources new suppliers for materials for the new product year or for mid-year changes.
  • As new technologies are introduced and become available, forwards information to Engineering for consideration.
  • Works with engineers and suppliers to solve problems that arise concerning parts.
  • Attends regular meetings and communicates frequently with Inventory, Production, Quality, Accounting, and Engineering.
  • Participates in project teams as assigned.
  • Works with the Purchasing Manager to communicate and resolve supplier quality alerts.
  • With the assistance of suppliers, develops cause analysis and preventative actions plans.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping of their desk; works all scheduled hours; maintains good attendance; adheres to all safety policies, procedures, and rules; adheres to the company’s Tobacco Free policy; and performs other duties as assigned by top management.
