The Buyer/Planner role is responsible for managing assigned commodities and finished products through strategic processes, focusing on cost reduction, quality and delivery improvement, and special project participation.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Purchasing or related field, or relevant practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Purchasing, Material Control, or related fields.
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in Lean manufacturing, distribution, and logistics.
  • Understanding of customs compliance requirements and importation rules for globally sourced vendors.
  • Strong leadership and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Background in Manufacturing is an asset.
  • Understanding of customs compliance requirements - NAFTA and importation rules for globally sourced vendors
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage working relationships with Sales, Customer Service, Distribution, Plant Operations, and customers to optimize distribution and enhance customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage suppliers for assigned portfolio (finished goods, raw materials, components, production services) while maintaining quality, service, and cost benchmarks
  • Analyze requisitions, specifications, and system reports to determine quantities and delivery dates; prepare RFPs/quotations, issue purchase orders based on Kanban/MRP reports, and communicate requirements to vendors
  • Prepare and issue production schedules to shop floor based on forecast, capacity, and customer requirements while monitoring shop orders to ensure no line-down situations and on-time delivery
  • Track deliveries, coordinate critical material movement (transfers, outside processing, conditional releases), and resolve issues with quality, delivery, quantity, and invoicing
  • Create debit memos for defective parts and respond to expedite/cancellation requests while providing accurate delivery dates to Customer Care
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels for manufacturing components and finished goods, identifying reduction opportunities and supply risks
  • Implement strategies to reduce costs and inventory while improving quality, delivery performance, and competitive positioning
  • Support sourcing team and QA in supplier qualification, restructure supplier relationships to improve vendor processing, and assist Commodity Managers with material requirements
  • Build strong relationships with internal customers and key suppliers, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and participate in or lead special sourcing projects as assigned
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Manager.
