About The Position

The Buyer/Planner is responsible for managing the planning, scheduling, and procurement of materials required to support production and customer demand. This position ensures material availability while optimizing inventory levels, supplier performance, and overall supply chain efficiency. The Buyer/Planner works closely with Operations, Production, Engineering, Quality, and Suppliers to maintain uninterrupted production and meet business objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, Manufacturing, or a related field OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, production planning, supply chain, materials management, or a related role.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of Buyer, Planner, or Buyer/Planner experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
  • APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) or ISM certification.
  • Experience with inventory management, forecasting, and supplier negotiations.
  • Knowledge of production scheduling and capacity planning.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and schedule materials to support production requirements and customer demand.
  • Analyze inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock levels to balance service, cost, and inventory objectives.
  • Create, manage, and release purchase orders to suppliers.
  • Monitor supplier performance, including delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
  • Expedite and de-expedite orders as necessary to meet production schedules and inventory goals.
  • Review MRP recommendations and take appropriate action to ensure material availability.
  • Communicate supply risks and develop mitigation plans to minimize production interruptions.
  • Collaborate with production, operations, engineering, and quality teams regarding material requirements and changes.
  • Support new product launches, engineering changes, and phase-out activities.
  • Maintain accurate planning parameters, lead times, and supplier information within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Analyze demand forecasts and adjust purchasing and planning activities accordingly.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and support cycle count and inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements throughout the supply chain.
  • Prepare reports and performance metrics related to inventory, supplier performance, and material availability.
