About The Position

At Weatherby, purchasing is more than placing orders-it's about building supplier partnerships, solving complex supply chain challenges, and ensuring the right materials arrive at the right time to support production and innovation. As a Buyer II, you'll take ownership of key supplier relationships, manage critical product lines, support new product development initiatives, and help drive continuous improvement across the supply chain. The Buyer II is responsible for managing assigned suppliers, product lines, and procurement activities that support Weatherby's manufacturing and business operations. This role owns purchasing strategies for assigned commodities and vendors, oversees supplier performance, supports product development initiatives, manages inventory planning activities, and helps resolve quality, delivery, and cost challenges. The Buyer II serves as a key liaison between suppliers, Engineering, Product Development, Production, Quality, and Supply Chain leadership to ensure business objectives are achieved.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3–5 years of purchasing, procurement, planning, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing suppliers, negotiating pricing, and resolving supply chain challenges.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Epicor, Oracle, Dynamics, Sage, or similar platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyze, manipulate, and interpret data.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, bills of material, and technical documentation.
  • Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships with suppliers, peers, and leadership.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Work is on site in Sheridan, WY.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Accounting, Operations, or related discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience supporting new product introductions, engineering changes, and supplier development activities preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned suppliers, product lines, and procurement activities to ensure continuity of supply and operational success.
  • Develop and execute purchasing plans for assigned vendors, commodities, and inventory categories.
  • Create, modify, monitor, and close purchase orders within the ERP system while maintaining data integrity.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and supplier agreements to support Weatherby objectives.
  • Manage Peak44 supplier relationships, inventory, purchasing activities, and order fulfillment requirements.
  • Support Peak44 Product Development initiatives by sourcing components, establishing supplier partnerships, and ensuring timely product launches.
  • Coordinate international import documentation, freight arrangements, customs requirements, and supplier communications.
  • Collaborate with Engineering regarding BOM changes, engineering change notices, print revisions, and new product introductions.
  • Review technical drawings and specifications to support sourcing decisions and supplier communication.
  • Work closely with Quality and Engineering to resolve supplier quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Track supplier performance metrics and proactively address risks impacting production schedules.
  • Communicate supply disruptions, delays, shortages, and risks to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Maintain inventory planning parameters including reorder points, lead times, costing, Kanban, VMI, and Two-Bin systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory management, material flow, procurement processes, and supplier performance.
  • Coordinate return of defective materials and ensure timely supplier credits and corrective actions.
  • Support cross-functional projects involving supply chain optimization, cost reduction, and operational efficiency.
  • Represent Weatherby professionally when visiting supplier facilities and conducting supplier reviews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
