About The Position

Buyer I is responsible for the purchasing tasks within its location. Manage different aspects of supplier products, inspecting quality and negotiating pricing while establishing relationships with suppliers.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of purchasing experience or equivalent education and or experience.
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of reading Material Requirements Planning (MRP).
  • Self-motivated and flexible with work hours.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Customer focused mindset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews MRP for material requirements.
  • Searches inventory records to determine if material on hand is in sufficient quantity and prepares purchase orders for purchase requirements.
  • Negotiates with suppliers to get optimal pricing, quality and delivery.
  • Enters and distributes purchase orders.
  • Communicates with suppliers concerning status of orders, pricing inquiries, order pushouts, and non-conforming products.
  • Pursues corrective action.
  • Verifies availability of inventories for manufacturing requirements.
  • Notifies affected personnel/departments of material shortages.
  • Works closely with internal departments on problem resolution and product change notification.
  • Maintains accurate inventories on established system, through pick slips, cycle counts, receivers, etc.
  • Verifies inventory counts as needed.
  • Enters blanket purchase orders annually.
  • Develop strategic supplier relationships to move more materials to higher levels of supplier management including setting up Kan Bans and other improved stocking programs
  • Processes paperwork for product/material returns.
  • Enter data to maintain current information on parts and suppliers.
  • Generates spreadsheets to provide information on average usage, cycle counts, supplier performance, etc.
  • Works with Engineering to support NPD Process.
  • Manage resolution of problems with Receiving, Accounting, and Quality Departments.
  • Continually evaluate company needs and source new product streams, find new vendors, and develop procurement strategies as necessary.
