About The Position

This full-time Butler role supports a family based in Boston while overseeing additional residences in New Hampshire and Montana. The position focuses on organizing and standardizing household operations across all properties. The Butler will coordinate a long-tenured team, including a chef, housekeeper, and multiple property managers. Core duties include daily household oversight, project and maintenance tracking, vendor coordination, and implementation of household systems. The role manages personal service tasks such as wardrobe care, packing and unpacking, and support for family travel. It also assists with entertaining, table service, and guest-related needs. Family support includes childcare-related driving, activity scheduling, pet care, errands, and household replenishment. The Butler will maintain calendars, track expenses, and ensure clear communication across staff and service providers. Regular travel is required to maintain standards at all residences and accompany the principals as needed. The role involves working closely with the lady of the house as the primary point of contact. Candidates must demonstrate experience in complex households, strong organizational capability, discretion, and the ability to integrate respectfully with established staff. The position is live-out, with accommodations provided during travel.

Requirements

  • Two to five years of household experience preferred, with a background in complex private households and multi-property oversight.
  • Strong organizational, project-management, and staff-coordination skills.
  • High discretion, professionalism, and ability to integrate with long-tenured staff.
  • Knowledge of etiquette, service standards, and household protocol.
  • Competence in personal service, travel logistics, and household systems.
  • Experience supporting school-aged children and managing related family schedules and routines.
  • Comfortable around animals, including dogs and horses.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations across three residences and ensure consistent standards and readiness.
  • Coordinate the chef, housekeeper, property managers, drivers, and external vendors.
  • Implement and maintain household systems, manuals, schedules, inventories, and project-tracking tools.
  • Monitor repairs, maintenance cycles, seasonal tasks, and vendor performance across all properties.
  • Prepare residences ahead of family arrivals and manage transitions between locations.
  • Identify staffing gaps, support onboarding, and guide new hires when needed.
  • Manage personal service tasks, including wardrobe organization, clothing care, packing, and unpacking.
  • Support family travel by arranging logistics, booking transportation and accommodations, and managing luggage.
  • Assist with entertaining, including table setting, formal and informal service, and guest coordination.
  • Support family routines through childcare-related driving, activity scheduling, and calendar management.
  • Handle errands such as gifts, packages, specialty shopping, and household replenishment.
  • Provide light pet care, including dog walking and coordinating daycare drop-off and pick-up.
  • Maintain floral arrangements and support household presentation, indoors and outdoors.
  • Manage household calendars, appointments, communications, and administrative workflows.
  • Track household expenses and provide structured updates to the principals.
  • Travel regularly to maintain standards at all residences and accompany the family as needed.
