About The Position

This position provides technical support, administration, and maintenance of Water Management’s technology systems and equipment, including user support, data management, and data extraction/analysis. This role will be part of a 2-person team that will provide technology support for 380 FTEs at 7 sites across the city. The department is responsible for providing safe drinking water for more than 330,000 residents of Durham and protecting the environment through effective wastewater treatment, while providing excellent customer service. Success in this role requires collaboration with staff across the department and with the City’s Technology Solutions department, as well as strong customer services skills to ensure the end users have the tools and training they need to meet the departmental mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or directly related field or equivalent
  • 5 years of information technology experience within a business or municipality
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office 365 and Windows 10/11

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced professional analysis and project management on technology and related initiatives for the department
  • Administers the procurement process for technology projects
  • Troubleshoots and maintains hardware and software.
  • Collaborates with vendors, City management, City departments, and/or external agencies; convenes, attends and facilitates meetings; Provides technical assistance and subject-matter expertise in person, via phone or online systems; Coordinates and conducts product demos and trials; Implements new technologies and processes, as well as City-wide rollouts of new technology and equipment.
  • Provides advanced professional analysis and project management on technology and related initiatives; work involves managing projects, including preparing project scopes, developing work plans, and mitigating risks; analyzing business and technology needs; testing, reviewing, and evaluating systems; designing and implementing technology solutions; designing, developing, and maintaining specialized databases; coordinating and performing technology support operations; troubleshooting related issues; and ensures compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Administers the procurement process for technology projects; assists with developing and administering budgets; researches and evaluates new technology systems and products; research, analyzes, and reports on financial, vendors, and related data; prepares cost estimates and financial forecasts; and makes budget- and procurement recommendations.
  • Prepares, maintains, reviews, and/or submits reports, project and other plans, contracts, bid documents, maps, records, presentations, and other documents; designs, develops, and maintains databases and webpages; researches, compiles, extracts, digitizes, and presents information; and reviews work for accuracy, completeness and compliance with contracts, and applicable regulations, policies, and procedures.
