As a member of the D&T Financial Systems team, the Business Systems Analyst Co-op will support the analysis, support, testing, and documentation of the firm’s financial systems during a full-time, 35-hour-per-week co-op running January 2027 through June 2027. Reporting to the Senior Financial Systems Analyst, this position works closely with the Financial Systems team and with business stakeholders across Finance, Billing, and Accounting, as well as with D&T User Support and other technology teams. The co-op is structured to build practical business analysis skills — requirements gathering, process mapping, data validation, testing, and end-user documentation — through supervised assignments on live support work and firm-wide projects, culminating in a capstone deliverable presented to the team at the end of the term.

Requirements

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the curiosity to ask questions and identify the root cause of an issue.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to share information with technical and non-technical audiences.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and working knowledge of Excel, including basic formulas, lookups, and pivot tables.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to balance assignments, meet deadlines, and produce accurate work with guidance and support.
Sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential firm, client, and financial information.
A collaborative approach, openness to feedback, and a willingness to learn.

Nice To Haves

Ability to read and interpret SQL query language is a plus.
Completed or in-progress coursework in some or all of the following is a plus: ACCT 1201 (Financial Accounting and Reporting), MISM 2301 (Introduction to Information Systems and Digital Technologies), MISM 2420 (Foundations of Business Analysis), MISM 3403 (Data Management for Business), MGMT 3530 (Project Management), and STRT 4501 (Strategy in Action).

Responsibilities

Participate in requirements-gathering sessions with business stakeholders; take structured notes and draft business requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for review by the Senior Financial Systems Analyst.
Document current-state and future-state business processes, including process flow and data flow diagrams, system support guides, and standard operating procedures.
Draft and maintain Knowledge Base ("KB") articles and end-user job aids in partnership with the D&T User Support team.
Write and execute test cases for system enhancements, patches, upgrades, and third-party integrations; log defects, retest fixes, and support user acceptance testing (UAT) coordination.
Perform data audits and reconciliations between financial systems and downstream reporting; validate report output and escalate discrepancies with supporting detail.
Assist with report and query requests, including reading and running existing SQL queries and drafting simple queries under supervision, and translate business requests into documented reporting specifications.
Maintain project artifacts for financial systems initiatives, including requirements traceability, issue and decision logs, status trackers, meeting minutes, and follow-up action items.
Support training efforts by preparing materials and assisting with ad-hoc end-user training on financial systems.
Complete a defined capstone project — scoped with the Senior Financial Systems Analyst at the start of the term — and present findings and recommendations to the D&T Financial Systems team prior to the end of the co-op.
As opportunities arise, shadow or assist the Technology Solutions Manager with requirements-gathering and business analysis activities, providing exposure to broader technology initiatives across the firm.
