About The Position

The Business Specialist, Specialty Pharmacy is strategic and highly motivated to lead key initiatives and operational programs within Stanford Health Care's Specialty Pharmacy department. This role is responsible for driving performance improvement, managing cross-functional initiatives, and delivering data-driven insights to optimize patient care, pharmacy operations, and compliance. The Business Specialist will serve as a key liaison across business, clinical, and technical teams, owning programs from design through execution.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a related field required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in pharmacy required.
  • Strong program ownership mindset with demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives.
  • Advanced data analysis and reporting skills; Excel proficiency required.
  • Skilled in identifying operational gaps and developing innovative, sustainable solutions.
  • Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; able to convey complex data to diverse audiences.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable to change.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Visio)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
  • Experience within specialty pharmacy, outpatient pharmacy, or 340B strongly preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare analytics, revenue cycle, or program management preferred.
  • project management tools like Asana, Smartsheet, or MS Project a plus.
  • PMP - Project Mgmt Professional preferred or Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and ownership of departmental programs and initiatives aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Lead data-driven projects, analyzing key financial and operational metrics such as budget variances, reimbursement trends, and KPIs.
  • Support and oversee audit processes, including 340B, internal, and external audits, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy, finance, IT, and clinical teams to implement solutions that improve documentation, workflow efficiency, and service quality.
  • Monitor program performance, identify risks and improvement areas, and develop action plans to drive accountability and innovation.
  • Maintain and enforce departmental policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with Joint Commission standards and National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Deliver clear, effective communication and reporting to stakeholders, including executive leadership.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and operational excellence.
