About The Position

The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices. This position is responsible for leading integrated portfolio planning, governance, capital portfolio management, and investment planning. The role provides structure for how investments are evaluated and managed by aligning annual plans to business strategy, guiding funding recommendations and tradeoff decisions, and ensuring consistent portfolio governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Business, Finance, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in portfolio management, strategic planning, capital management, financial planning, program management, or a related role.
  • Proven experience leading annual planning, portfolio governance, investment prioritization, and cross-functional decision-making processes.
  • Experience with capital approval processes, portfolio management systems, and financial or investment analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, facilitation, and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and guide complex portfolio decisions.

  • Knowledge of capital authorization, appropriation, Stage Gate, and portfolio intake processes.

Responsibilities

  • Leads integrated annual portfolio planning across development, engineering, non-recurring, and capital investments to align funding needs with business priorities.
  • Owns annual planning cycles and coordinates portfolio inputs, assumptions, scenarios, and leadership reviews.
  • Leads the capital portfolio, including investment planning, prioritization, funding recommendations, and portfolio-level tradeoff analysis.
  • Establishes and maintains portfolio governance, intake, and review processes to support consistent evaluation, approval, and oversight of investments.
  • Serves as the subject matter expert for capital authorization, appropriation, and Stage Gate requirements, providing guidance and training to stakeholders.
  • Facilitates portfolio health reviews and uses performance, financial, risk, and capacity insights to recommend corrective actions or mitigation plans.
  • Partners with business and portfolio leaders to clarify investment priorities, resolve portfolio conflicts, and support high-quality funding decisions.
  • Partners with portfolio analysts, opportunity planning resources, and technical systems resources to improve planning, governance, reporting, workflows, and portfolio management tools.
