About The Position

Organization's Summary Statement: The Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM) seeks a highly organized and detail-oriented Business Manager to join our team. This role is pivotal in ensuring smooth administrative operations and providing exceptional support for our Institute. The Business Manager is responsible for the institute’s financial operations and personnel management. Specifically: monitor expenditures and initiate transfer of funds; approve and manage procurement purchases/contracts, occasionally provide backup support for general purchasing. The Business Manager will initiate annual budget reports with 5-year projections/forecasts; reconcile monthly financial statements and make adjustments; prepare monthly budget reports. The Business Manager will also perform payroll and budgetary duties; initiate appointment contracts and process payroll for all institute employees; manage travel; assist with facilities requests; provide a fiscally responsible office environment emphasizing teamwork and cooperation. EXAMPLES OF WORK: Supports human resources administration functions. Executes purchasing and procurement. Processes invoices and other financial transactions. Reviews and approves all divisional travel and procurement card logs. Manages all payroll transactions. May manage a team of professional and support staff. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of professional human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or travel coordination experience.
  • Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.
  • Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
