Reporting to the Business Intelligence Lead, the Business Intelligence Engineer supports the development and maintenance of Power BI reports and dashboards used across Ascot’s business, operations, and finance teams. This role works closely with senior BI engineers, data engineers, and business partners to deliver accurate, well-structured reporting solutions. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of Power BI and SQL, strong attention to detail, and a desire to continue developing technical and analytical skills in an enterprise data environment. This role will be in the office with a hybrid work schedule.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–3 years of experience working with Power BI in a professional or business setting.
  • Some experience working with relational databases and structured datasets.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and business concepts.
  • Power BI fundamentals, including: Report and dashboard creation Basic data modeling concepts Introductory DAX measures and calculations
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying and validating data.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server or similar platforms).
  • Basic understanding of data warehousing and ETL concepts.
  • Ability to read and follow existing data models and report designs.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and data quality.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and eagerness to grow technical capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of Power BI reports, dashboards, and datasets.
  • Support Power BI semantic models by creating and maintaining basic measures, calculated columns, and relationships.
  • Write and modify SQL queries to retrieve and validate data from enterprise data sources.
  • Perform data validation and reconciliation to ensure reports are accurate and align with source systems.
  • Work with senior developers and data engineers to understand data structures, definitions, and reporting standards.
  • Help address report defects, enhancements, and routine maintenance requests.
  • Participate in requirements discussions to understand reporting needs and assist in translating them into Power BI solutions.
  • Follow established development standards, naming conventions, and documentation practices.
  • Learn and apply best practices related to data modeling, report performance, and usability.
