About The Position

As part of the Data & Analytics team, the Business Intelligence (BI) Developer will report directly to the Director, Data, Analytics & Quality, with day-to-day support and coaching from the Senior BI Developer & Technical Lead. The BI Developer will support, in collaboration with other team members, designing, modeling, development, maintenance and enhancement of the Ontario Shores’ data environments and tools/solutions. The role will also support reporting, analytics as well as business intelligence/decision support solutions to meet the information needs and the strategic goals of the organization. The BI Developer will apply best practices in data analytics, requirements gathering, data modelling and report building. There will also be work involving APIs, JSON, Blazor Web App Development (C# and HTML), and Azure Cloud tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Technology, or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of work experience with SQL server, Business Intelligence, reporting and data modelling
  • Working knowledge of relational databases, data model development, data warehousing, and business intelligence.
  • Working knowledge in working with RESTful APIs and non-relational data formats such as JSON/XML.
  • Competency in database design, relational integrity constraints, data marts, and normalization.
  • Experience in generating custom reports using SQL Server and Microsoft reporting tools such as SSMS, Power BI desktop, including advanced functions, scheduling and publishing reports on Microsoft Fabric
  • Demonstrated experience in creating medium to large-scale enterprise logical data models using normalization, star and snowflake schema techniques.
  • Advanced skills in reviewing SQL code and making recommendations for optimization.
  • Procedural skills to help design, debug, implement, and maintain stored procedures, views, triggers and user-defined functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in responding to and troubleshooting issues related to data quality and performance, with the ability to resolve them in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex business requirement into technical solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in building complex data analytics reporting
  • Hands on experience with Object-Oriented Programming language, preferably C#

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of healthcare and/or MEDITECH HIS environment.
  • Experience with cloud-based BI, data virtualization including Azure platform and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Good understanding of, and experience with, code repositories such as GitHub and DevOps for managing code.
  • Good understanding of, and experience with, the software development lifecycle and software project management approaches.
  • Good understanding of N-Tier Web Architecture, Repository design pattern, and experience with HTML, CSS and Java Script in website development with various Web Frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the basics of Machine Learning and ability to write/read Python/R code.

Responsibilities

  • Supports development and maintenance of data models and data dictionaries, data maps and other artifacts across the organization, including the conceptual and physical models, as well as metadata repository.
  • Contributes to evaluation of current state and future state requirements and supports development of proposals to address identified gaps.
  • Supports activities to ensure the integrity and performance of the Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence environment at Ontario Shores, including investigation and issue resolution as required.
  • Contributes to the development of reporting solutions and helps to ensures that report implementation produces the required output as defined by the requirements.
  • Generates reports using reporting tools such as Power BI Report Builder, Power BI Desktop, and Excel spreadsheets; schedules and deploys reports on Microsoft Fabric.
  • Ensures reports are optimized for efficiency and performance in production environment.
  • Assists with documentation of report library and builds ETL mechanisms using tools such as Azure Logic Apps and Azure Data Factory.
  • Lead collaboration with IT at Ontario Shores and within the MH-HIS Cluster as applicable to help ensure internal control & integrity of systems.
  • Support team members in knowledge and skill development as applicable, including students.
  • Conduct research into data trends, issues, standards, and products as required.
  • Contributes ideas towards best practice improvements, process improvement, and innovative solutions to ensure the stability and reliability of the Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence environment at Ontario Shores and the shared cloud-based data & analytics environment.
  • Perform system and platform performance monitoring and tuning, and SQL code review.
  • Support and follow information governance and data standardization procedures established by the organization.
  • Suggest appropriate content and design details where appropriate.
  • Participate and support activities as part of various Data Management Working Groups.
  • Application development using C# via console applications to support utility programming.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in handling of any sensitive data.
  • On-call availability after hours will be required to support business critical products and/or services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
