About The Position

Auto-Owners Insurance is seeking a motivated intern to join its Actuarial Division. The intern will create data processes, data assets, and reporting solutions that support the company’s growth and profitability objectives. This is a full-time, in-person internship in Lansing, Michigan, with interns choosing their start and end dates; most work from mid-May to mid-August. The role includes training and requires effective communication with other employees. Applicants must be able to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.

Requirements

• Be working toward a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, data science, or a related quantitative discipline, with at least two years of coursework completed; master’s students are also considered if their graduation date is August 2027 or later.
• High aptitude for mathematics and statistics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to constant change and innovation.
• Ability to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Actuarial studies or exams are considered but are not required.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL, Python, or other programming, database, or statistical languages.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting or dashboarding solutions.

Responsibilities

• Create reports, data extracts, and analyses to support business functions and inquiries.
• Build, maintain, and document code used to transform, aggregate, and present data.
• Learn and apply tools and techniques used to design and implement business intelligence solutions.
• Develop an understanding of the company’s data sources and data flows.
• Communicate effectively with other employees through verbal and written means.
• Participate in formal and informal training sessions.
