About The Position

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time Business Intelligence Analyst position at the Walla Walla campus. The Business Intelligence Analyst (BIA) is a member of the Institutional Research and Effectiveness (IRE) team and plays a key role in supporting institutional planning, decision-making, and continuous improvement. The department supports the college’s mission and commitment to student learning and success by providing quality, accessible, reliable, and relevant information to stakeholders across the institution. Through data analysis, reporting, and research, the department informs decision-making and planning, enhances institutional effectiveness, and fosters a culture of evidence-based inquiry. Working under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, this position collaborates with Business Systems Analysts, Technology Services, Enrollment Strategies, and other stakeholders to transform institutional data into actionable insights. Through interactive dashboards, visualizations, reports, and analyses, the BIA translates complex data into information that is accessible to diverse audiences. The position helps stakeholders understand not only what the data show, but why it matters, revealing trends, patterns, and underlying factors that support informed decision-making and institutional improvement. The position is 50% grant funded through Sept 30, 2029 and will be fully institutionalized and funded by the college by the close of the grant cycle.

  • Demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Establishes timelines, coordinates stakeholders, monitors progress, and ensures deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with data integration, cloud-based data environments, data warehousing concepts, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, evolving institutional needs, and competing deadlines. Remains flexible and responsive while maintaining accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Understands the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence, including generative AI tools, in research, analysis, and reporting. Applies appropriate professional judgment regarding suitable use cases, data privacy and governance, and the protection of sensitive and student-level data. Maintains human review and validation of AI-assisted outputs and demonstrates awareness of bias, accuracy, transparency, and reproducibility considerations.
  • Demonstrates the ability to build effective working relationships across departments and functional areas. Collaborates with stakeholders to understand information needs, develop solutions, and advance institutional goals.
  • Demonstrates ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment. The department adheres to the ethical principles of the Association for Institutional Research (AIR).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Sociology or related field; OR equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Demonstrable intermediate to advanced expertise in data manipulation and visualization tools, particularly Power BI.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency querying relational databases, such as Oracle and MS SQL.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Sociology or related field AND advanced expertise in data manipulation and visualization tools, particularly Power BI, and in a statistical programming language such as R or Python; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced proficiency querying relational databases, such as Oracle and MS SQL.
  • Ability to use independent judgment with select authority for decision making.
  • Exemplary professional experience in a data analysis role, preferably in an educational or research-oriented setting.

Nice To Haves

  • Tableau experience is a plus.
  • Experience with ctcLink/PeopleSoft or a similar ERP system preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Generates clear, compelling, and accessible visualizations that enable users to explore data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions using the department's primary visualization platform, Power BI. Adapts the visualization format based on the needs and comprehension levels of multiple audiences, from operational staff to executive leadership.
  • Interprets data, identifies meaningful trends and patterns, and develops recommendations for the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness and other stakeholders. Collaborates closely with multiple departments to identify opportunities for process improvement and reporting. Reports on institutional and grant key performance indicators. Produces and presents reports on student success (e.g., credit accumulation, retention, and completion), demographics, educational interventions, and other subjects as required. Reports may require the use of advanced statistical analysis and require comparison between cohorts based on specific variables.
  • Extracts, cleans, validates, and manages data from a variety of sources, systems, and formats. Queries data in a complex, multi-table database using SQL, R, and/or other languages. Assures data quality and integrity by implementing relevant validation techniques.
  • Offers technical expertise and support to other departments as needed. Works closely with Technology Services and other data-related departments to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Helps foster a culture of inquiry, improvement, and evidence-based decision-making. Represents the department on collegewide committees and/or project-based working groups, as appropriate. Other duties as assigned.
