About The Position

Mission Technologies is seeking a Business Information Security Officer (BISO) to work out of our Fairlakes office in Fairfax, VA. The BISO serves as a trusted cybersecurity advisor to their assigned division. This role requires a strong understanding of cybersecurity risks and technologies, along with the ability to effectively communicate those concepts to business units. The BISO works in tandem with the business across multiple services and platforms to address risk and advises leaders to make informed decisions with cybersecurity in mind. This advanced role supports the enterprise cybersecurity program by providing leadership and both strategic and tactical guidance for a world-class security program. As a business enabler, the BISO must be an effective communicator with the technical aptitude to drive cybersecurity fundamentals into all aspects of the business. The BISO must be capable of working closely with senior management, third parties, project managers, and business subject matter experts (SMEs). The individual should be personable and able to translate cybersecurity issues into business-focused recommendations. A strong technical background is required, including the ability to understand technologies, their purpose, and their security and data protection requirements, regardless of where they reside. BISOs should also understand threats, as well as risk mitigations and the technical controls recommended by security leaders. This role requires both deep security expertise and strong business acumen to support secure growth, operational resilience, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • 9 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field; 7 years with a master’s; 4 years with a PhD or JD; or 13 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA).
  • At least 3 years of experience working with business leadership and enterprise projects.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and promote a positive, enterprise-wide cybersecurity culture.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and trustworthiness when representing the company and cybersecurity leadership.
  • Strong understanding of business processes and the ability to integrate cybersecurity through collaboration and influence.
  • Excellent project management, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to varying personalities and management styles to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated credibility based on sustained industry knowledge.
  • Ability to motivate teams, recognize contributions, and drive excellence.
  • Knowledge of national and global cybersecurity policies, regulations, and frameworks.
  • Understanding of a broad range of cybersecurity solutions.
  • Proven history of integrity, adaptability, curiosity, strong communication, and pride in work.
  • Highly organized, efficient self-starter who requires minimal supervision.
  • General business administration competencies.
  • Strong ability to communicate privacy, business risk, and remediation requirements derived from assessments.
  • Demonstrated strategic and tactical thinking, decision-making skills, and business acumen.
  • Ability to Obtain Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP certification preferred.
  • At least 10 years of cybersecurity experience (or IT with significant cybersecurity focus), including a minimum of 5 years in an operational cybersecurity practitioner role.
  • 14 or more years of combined cybersecurity and/or information technology experience.
  • 5 or more years of related cybersecurity systems administration experience (preferred).
  • 3 or more years of cybersecurity or IT project management experience.
