Business Development Representative Intern

MakeshipToronto, ON
CA$40,000 - CA$40,000

About The Position

Makeship empowers influencers, creators, and brands of all sizes to develop and launch limited-edition products that matter to their fans. Leveraging our design, manufacturing, and marketing expertise, we work with our partners to bring their products to life through our community-powered crowdfunding platform. Each product is given a window of 21 days to be funded by the community before we produce and ship to fans worldwide. We put our brand behind every product and guarantee quality and ethical sourcing. We're profitable, we have a three-year revenue growth of over 200%, ranking us 97th in 2024 and 86th on The Globe and Mail’s Canada’s Top Growing Companies of 2025 list. We are also excited to announce that Makeship has officially been Great Place to Work-Certified™ for 3 years in a row! Learn more about us at Makeship.com. As a Business Development Representative Intern (BDR) (8-month internship starting Fall 2026), you’ll help fuel Makeship’s growth by identifying and engaging new potential partners (creators, talent teams, and select brands), learning our outreach process, and supporting early pipeline development. This is a hands-on role for someone who practically lives online - plugged into gaming, trend cycles, and meme culture, and active in multiple creator fandoms. And who’s excited by creator ecosystems and relationship-driven business development. You’ll work closely with the Partnerships team and cross-functional partners to help bring new collaborations to life. We want this to be the best work experience of your life! A chance to learn from experienced operators and work at the intersection of gaming, D2C, and the creator economy. You’ll build real-world skills in prospecting, outreach, and relationship-building while collaborating with creators, talent teams, and select brands, and seeing how partnerships turn into launches that fans care about.

Requirements

  • Strong written communication: you can write outreach that’s warm, concise, and specific (and adjust tone for creators vs. brands).
  • Research instincts: you can find the right people, verify contact paths, and build clean, targeted lists with clear rationale.
  • Organized follow-through: you keep tracking spotless (notes, next steps, dates) and never let a lead go cold due to missed follow-ups.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: you ask smart questions, test approaches, and iterate quickly based on feedback and results.
  • Sound judgment + integrity: you’re thoughtful about who we reach out to, how we represent Makeship, and how we handle sensitive info.
  • Creator + internet culture fluency: you understand platforms, community dynamics, and what makes fans engage.
  • Collaborative mindset: you communicate proactively with the Partnerships team and cross-functional partners to keep handoffs smooth.
  • Resilience and curiosity: you can handle “no,” learn from it, and keep momentum without losing quality.

  • Have experience with social media and/or marketing
  • Have experience with a CRM (preferably Hubspot)

Responsibilities

  • Support initial outreach, follow-ups, and meeting-setting for qualified prospects.
  • Maintain clean, organized outreach notes, status updates, and activity tracking (contacts, follow-ups, and next steps).
  • Assist with maintaining/updating the Partnerships pipeline and ensuring handoffs are well-documented.
  • Learn Makeship’s partnership process and help refine intern-friendly repeatable workflows (templates, talk tracks, research checklists).
  • Become fluent in “how Makeship works” so you can communicate it simply and confidently: the product development flow, limited-time campaign structure, and how Makeship supports partners with marketing and fulfillment.
  • Collaborate with the Partnerships team and cross-functional partners as needed, and keep the right stakeholders informed on outreach progress, key updates, and any blockers.
