About The Position

The Business Development Officer is responsible for actively engaging in the sales process and partner relationships to ensure the attainment of individual and department goals and objectives. This role contributes to the profitability and growth of the bank by building, developing, and managing new and expanded client relationships. The position will generate and grow quality Commercial, C&I, SBA, Real Estate Lending, Consumer, and Commercial Equipment Leasing. Additionally, the position will market deposit products to further contribute to the Bank’s growth. This position will leverage customer leads and other lead-generating techniques to identify new prospects and cross-selling opportunities, conduct discussions with prospects to understand their background, identify needs, and clearly communicate potential solutions. Ensures compliance with established Bank policies and procedures and demonstrates knowledge of, adherence to, monitoring, and responsibility for compliance with state and federal regulations and laws, including but not limited to GLBA, Regulation Z, Regulation DD, Regulation B, Dodd-Frank Act, Elder Abuse Laws, Bank Secrecy Act in conjunction with the USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering and Customer Information Program, Right to Financial Privacy Act, and Community Reinvestment Act.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or 1 years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of bank products and services including Bank Secrecy Act compliance is required.
  • Strong knowledge of various phases of sales management, including planning, goal setting, project/time management, and selling techniques.
  • Excellent business development and client relationship skills.
  • Proven new business development / Origination experience.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional sales and analytical skills.
  • Ability to create and conduct presentations and prepare final proposals for qualified prospects.
  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Intermediate math skills; ability to calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence and procedures, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Intermediate experience, knowledge, and training in all lending activities and terminology.
  • Intermediate knowledge of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other Bank lending policies.
  • Ability to work with no supervision while performing duties.
  • Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

  • Leverage customer leads and other lead-generating techniques to identify new prospects and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Conduct discussions with prospects to understand background, identify needs, and clearly communicate potential solutions.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of, adherence to, monitoring, and responsibility for compliance with state and federal regulations and laws.
  • Generate new business through prospecting, outside calling, networking, and referrals.
  • Make a substantial number of outside, in-person calls on prospects and clients, requiring extensive automobile travel.
  • Develop business relationships in the community, directly and through referral base.
  • Execute sales strategies, marketing plans, and business development programs.
  • Call on and collaborate with prospects and existing clients to determine if their financial needs are met and formulate a relationship development plan.
  • Maintain an awareness of marketplace products, practices, rates, and changes to capitalize on competitive opportunities.
  • Handle a high volume of phone calls with professionalism and deliver exceptional customer service.
  • Maintain working knowledge of commercial loans, business deposit products, foreign exchange, trade finance, cash management, and investment referral opportunities.
  • Produce loan packages that are within the creditworthiness and compliance with Commercial, C&I, or SBA guidelines.
  • Review and analyze income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, projected financials, and collateral analysis.
  • Generate appropriate transactions, produce lending packages, and communicate with Credit regarding opportunities.
  • Work with marketing, sales, and product development teams to implement business development initiatives.
  • Interact in an effective and professional manner with all levels of Bank personnel, corporate and bank clients.
  • Represent Hanmi Bank by actively participating in outside civic and community affairs, business and industry-related organizations, and other professional activities.
  • Track individual performance goals and results in a timely and accurate manner for reporting purposes.
  • Maintain knowledge of the Company’s underwriting and lending guidelines.
