The University of Toronto Mississauga Co-op Internship Program (UTMCIP) partners with employers, industry leaders and community organizations to create high-quality work-integrated learning opportunities that connect classroom learning with practical experience. Through strategic employer engagement and partnership development, the program helps students build career-ready skills while supporting organizations in accessing emerging talent across a wide range of disciplines. Working under the direction of the Associate Director, Employer Relations and supervision of the Business Development Lead, the Business Development Officer will play a key role in expanding and strengthening UTM’s employer network and experiential learning ecosystem. This role is responsible for identifying and developing new partnership opportunities across assigned industries and sectors, while building strong relationships with employers, alumni, and external stakeholders. The incumbent will contribute to the growth of internship and co-op opportunities by promoting UTM student talent, identifying labour market trends and supporting innovative employer engagement strategies that align with departmental priorities and industry needs. The Business Development Officer will lead outreach and relationship-building activities with prospective and existing employer partners to increase experiential learning opportunities for students. The role will involve researching emerging sectors and market trends, developing targeted engagement strategies, representing the university at networking and recruitment events, and creating meaningful opportunities for employers and students to connect through industry-facing initiatives. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, the incumbent will help strengthen UTM’s visibility within the employer community and support the continued growth of experiential learning opportunities across the campus. The successful candidate will be a relationship builder and strategic thinker with strong communication and networking skills, sound judgment, and a demonstrated ability to cultivate partnerships in a fast-paced, evolving environment. They will be highly proactive, resourceful, and motivated by creating opportunities that support student success and long-term employer engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five years.

Responsibilities
