KCI is looking for a Business Development Officer to support strategic growth across our construction markets. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of business development experience in the construction industry, with demonstrated success in commercial, water/wastewater, infrastructure, or industrial markets.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with CRM platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly motivated, goal-oriented, and capable of managing multiple priorities.
  • Aligned with KCI GRiT values.

Nice To Haves

  • Established network in Missouri’s municipal, industrial, and private-sector construction markets is preferred.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure funding mechanisms (SRF, ARPA, bond issues, etc.) is preferred.
  • Prior experience representing a general contractor, construction manager, or design-builder is preferred.
  • Knowledge of project delivery methods including CMAR, Design-Build, and Lump Sum.

Responsibilities

  • Market Development Identify and qualify project opportunities across commercial, water/wastewater, infrastructure, and industrial markets throughout Missouri and surrounding regions.
  • Actively monitor regional construction trends, capital improvement plans, bond issues, and industry forecasts.
  • Develop strategies to penetrate new clients and expand existing relationships.
  • Client & Partner Engagement Build strong, lasting relationships with clients, developers, municipalities, utilities, designers, and industry influencers.
  • Represent KCI at conferences, industry associations (e.g., AGC, MWEA, ACEC), networking events, and community functions.
  • Facilitate early engagement conversations with clients to position KCI as a trusted partner from preconstruction through completion.
  • Pursuit & Proposal Support Lead the coordination of go/no-go decisions and pursuit strategies for targeted projects.
  • Collaborate with preconstruction, estimating, and marketing teams to develop RFQ/RFP responses, qualification packages, and interview materials.
  • Participate in shortlist interviews and presentations to support project acquisition.
  • Strategic Growth & Reporting Support the development of annual business development goals, budgets, and performance metrics.
  • Maintain a detailed CRM database of leads, contacts, meetings, and pursuit status.
  • Analyze win/loss outcomes and contribute insights to continuously improve pursuit performance.
  • Internal Collaboration Partner with KCI leadership, preconstruction, and operations to ensure pursuit efforts are aligned with capacity, expertise, and strategic goals.
  • Build and sustain long-term client relationships by staying engaged post-award, conducting quarterly touchpoints to monitor project progress and reinforce delivery of agreed-upon commitments.
  • Assist in client onboarding and project handoff to ensure a seamless transition from preconstruction to construction teams.
