About The Position

Work Industries has been retained to recruit a Business Development Manager for a growing commercial services organization with presence throughout the Greater Los Angeles market. This is a relationship focused business development role for an experienced B2B professional who excels at building networks, developing strategic accounts, opening doors and creating long term customer relationships. The position is structured differently from a traditional full cycle sales role. The Business Development Manager will focus on developing the market, building customer relationships and identifying qualified business opportunities. Once an opportunity develops, an experienced internal team provides support with scoping, pricing, proposals and closing. The successful candidate will serve as a visible representative of the organization throughout Greater Los Angeles and will have significant autonomy in developing and managing the territory.

Requirements

  • Accomplished B2B business development or field sales professional with demonstrated success developing relationships and generating new business within a large geographic territory.
  • Proven experience in B2B sales, business development, territory development or strategic account development.
  • Experience working in a field based environment where relationships and trust are critical to winning business.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new accounts and build a territory.
  • Strong prospecting, networking and relationship development skills.
  • Experience engaging with business leaders, facility decision makers and operational stakeholders.
  • Strong discovery and listening skills with the ability to uncover customer needs through thoughtful conversation.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Confidence and professional presence when representing an organization with customers and at industry events.
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to quickly understand different businesses and operating environments.
  • A strategic approach to account development and territory prioritization.
  • A high degree of self direction, organization and personal accountability.
  • Ability to independently manage a large geographic territory and field schedule.
  • An established professional network within Greater Los Angeles or demonstrated ability to rapidly develop one.
  • Reside within the Greater Los Angeles territory.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan for the Greater Los Angeles market.
  • Identify and pursue high value commercial and institutional accounts.
  • Build relationships with facility leaders, operations executives, procurement professionals and other key decision makers.
  • Generate new opportunities through strategic prospecting, networking, referrals, LinkedIn, email, phone and in person engagement.
  • Conduct face to face meetings with prospective customers throughout the territory.
  • Attend industry associations, conferences, networking functions and relevant events, including IFMA, BOMA, IREM and other targeted industry organizations.
  • Establish and maintain a strong professional presence within the Greater Los Angeles business and facilities community.
  • Develop deeper relationships with key existing customers and identify opportunities to expand those partnerships.
  • Conduct discovery conversations to understand customer operations, challenges, priorities and future requirements.
  • Identify qualified opportunities and collaborate with internal sales resources on scoping, pricing, proposals and closing activities.
  • Remain engaged throughout the sales process as a trusted relationship partner for the customer.
  • Independently manage territory planning, customer activity, travel and weekly priorities.
  • Maintain consistent visibility into business development activity and opportunity progression.
