About The Position

WJ Groundwater is seeking an individual to spearhead the development of a construction sales team in Canada. Initially, the role will involve meeting clients in person to discuss their water management requirements and presenting proposals, with the technical team providing support. The goal is to build strong client relationships across various levels of client organizations. The company currently receives over 10 leads per week in the GTA area and has opportunities in other regions of Ontario and beyond. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for determining the best sales process, training, and managing a team of account executives across Canada. This role reports to the President of WJ Canada and offers an opportunity for growth as the company expands its service offerings and geographical reach. Requirements

  • A degree or graduate diploma/certificate in Marketing, Business Administration or a similar field of study. Candidates with a technical background interested in Business Development will also be considered.
  • Proven experience in a technical sale, project management, or business development role within the civil construction, industrial, or water management sectors.
  • A strong technical aptitude and a keen, demonstrable interest in learning the engineering principles behind groundwater management is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build strong and trusted relationships with technical and commercial decision-makers.
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm to grow with the company, with a willingness to take on hands-on operational responsibilities as the regional business matures.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and capable of working independently to build a market from the ground up.
  • General computer skills are essential.
  • A valid driver’s licence.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience in dewatering, water treatment, or bypass pumping is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with CRM software, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and MS Office is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver sales targets across Eastern Canada.
  • Promote and be the face of WJ Groundwater.
  • Maintain sustainable growth in existing markets (GTA and Ottawa).
  • Actively seek and secure contracts within the wider region (SW Ontario, Quebec).
  • Identify new business opportunities, staying aware of market shifts, competition, and industry trends.
  • Design and implement a strategic sales plan to expand the customer base and secure market presence.
  • Generate leads, identify contacts and decision-makers, and close agreements with clients.
  • Develop and retain relationships with new and existing clients, promoting WJ’s capabilities.
  • Collect feedback from customers post-project completion.
  • Maintain a strong technical understanding of WJ products, services, and value proposition.
  • Work closely with the Technical Manager and Sales Engineer to produce proposals and quotations.
  • Ensure smooth hand-over procedures between contract negotiation and operations teams.
  • Review and recommend improvements to existing costing and sales processes.
  • Introduce and maintain a sales pipeline, tracking key metrics.
  • Carry out sales forecasts and analysis, reporting business opportunities, improvements, and risks.
  • Chair and develop sales meetings.
  • Support colleagues in client meetings.
  • Identify and map business strengths and customer needs.
  • Assist the President in aligning staff with company objectives and managing change.
  • Think strategically and set objectives to develop and improve the business.
  • Assist other BU teams with building contacts and winning profitable works.
  • Collect customer feedback and conduct market research.
