About The Position

This is a hybrid position based in Cincinnati, Ohio, with an expected travel requirement of approximately 50%. We are entering a significant growth phase and expanding our reach across the broader nonprofit sector. To support this momentum, we are seeking a Business Development Manager who thrives in a high-growth environment, is driven by ambitious targets, and takes full ownership of outcomes. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for generating new business revenue by managing the complete sales cycle-from initial prospecting and discovery to strategy development, negotiation, and closing. This role demands strong consultative selling skills, the ability to design thoughtful deal strategies, and the capability to build and manage relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in business development, partnerships, fundraising, consulting, or sales.
  • Proven ability to initiate conversations and close agreements.
  • Comfort being accountable to goals and outcomes.
  • Confident communicator who can lead conversations with executive-level nonprofit leaders.
  • Strong persuasion skills grounded in credibility and trust.
  • Excellent follow-up and time management.
  • Competitive and self-motivated.
  • Comfortable hearing "no" and continuing to pursue the next opportunity.
  • Mission-driven and results-oriented.
  • Thrives in a growth environment with high expectations and autonomy.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively identify, research, and pursue nonprofit organizations beyond the United Way ecosystem.
  • Initiate outreach through email, phone, networking, referrals, and events. Approximately 50% travel is required.
  • Own the full sales cycle-from first conversation to proposal creation, through commitment.
  • Consistently build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective nonprofit partners.
  • Lead discovery conversations that uncover organizational needs, challenges, and readiness.
  • Position our services as solutions that strengthen leadership, operations, and compliance.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts to close deals efficiently.
  • Move conversations forward with clarity, confidence, and appropriate urgency.
  • Work toward clearly defined growth goals and performance metrics.
  • Track outreach, conversations, and progress in CRM or tracking systems.
  • Regularly assess what's working and adjust strategies to improve results.
  • Maintain relationships post-engagement to support renewals, expansions, and referrals.
  • Stay attuned to trends, pain points, and decision-making dynamics in the nonprofit sector.
  • Share insights back to the organization that inform service offerings, pricing, and messaging.
  • Represent the organization confidently and competitively in the nonprofit marketplace.
  • Consistently meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue targets.
