The Business Development Manager helps drive state-level growth by identifying opportunities, building relationships with prospective clients, and supporting the pursuit process. This role monitors state-regulatory developments, contributes insights to regional strategy, and applies established industry practices to support successful business development outcomes.

Requirements

  • Experience in the energy efficiency industry required.
  • 6–9 years with a BA; 4–7 years with an MBA
  • Strong understanding of: Core BD principles and practices State-level market dynamics and regulatory environments Industry standards and typical utility program models

Responsibilities

  • Territory & Opportunity Development Generate leads and engage prospective clients within assigned state or territory.
  • Maintain industry connections to stay informed about state utility trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activity.
  • Support early pursuit efforts by identifying potential partners and contributing to teaming decisions.
  • Strategy & Market Insight Lead development of state-level growth strategies aligned with regulatory landscapes and market opportunities.
  • Provide state-specific insights to clients and internal teams.
  • Contribute to regional strategy discussions as appropriate.
  • Business Development Execution Apply established BD principles, industry practices, and company standards to advance opportunities.
  • Collaborate with BD Directors, Solutions, and Delivery teams to support proposal development.
  • Participate in client meetings to position the company effectively.
  • Collaboration & Internal Support Work closely with regional BD team members to coordinate opportunity planning and client engagement.
  • Share insights and information that enhance regional forecasting, planning, and pipeline management.
