About The Position

Drive growth and market positioning for premier transactional practices at a leading global law firm. Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer, a leading global law firm, is seeking a Business Development Manager to play a central role in advancing the firm's Transactional and U.S. Corporate practices. This position has been created in response to the continued growth and maturity of the firm's U.S. Corporate platform—including the expansion of strategic M&A capabilities, growth in the Energy and Mining sectors, and additional anticipated lateral growth—which have generated a need for dedicated, senior-level business development support. Reporting to the Head of Business Development - US Transactions, this role will drive strategic and tactical BD initiatives across Private Equity, M&A, Capital Markets, and Public Companies, while also supporting the firm's emerging Projects, Energy & Infrastructure, and Mining practices. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, commercially minded professional who thrives in a high-growth environment and can operate independently across multiple practice areas and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of business development or marketing experience within a law firm or professional services environment, with a strong preference for candidates with direct exposure to transactional or corporate practices.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Demonstrate exceptional writing, editing, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in CRM platforms and experience management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite; comfort with data analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic pitches, proposals, RFP responses, and presentations, partnering with attorneys to pursue new business opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
  • Maintain and enhance the firm's portfolio of transaction experience and credentials, ensuring materials are accurate, current, and aligned with market opportunities.
  • Conduct targeted market research and competitive analysis to identify emerging opportunities, inform practice strategy, and support market positioning efforts; deliver actionable intelligence to attorneys and practice leadership to guide client targeting and outreach.
  • Partner with practice leadership to execute initiatives that enhance market visibility, deepen client engagement, and support priority growth sectors.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality client-facing materials, including capability statements, opportunity analyses, market intelligence and thought leadership content; manage CRM data integrity and pipeline tracking to support strategic client engagement efforts.
  • Coordinate high-profile events, sponsorships, conferences, and client programs, managing logistics, communications, and post-event follow-up to maximize impact.
