Business Development Manager – Energy & Flexibility

Deftpower
$60,000 - $90,000Hybrid

About The Position

As a Business Development Manager for Flex Partnerships at Deftpower, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of electric charging by turning charge point operators (CPOs), DSOs, and TSOs into flex-demand partners. You will identify key players who can benefit from steerable load and leverage Deftpower's existing flexibility playbook, cashbacks, off-peak rewards, and OCPI steering to build compelling commercial cases that lead to signed contracts. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in long, technical sales cycles involving multiple stakeholders and can confidently navigate commercial, technical, and energy-market discussions. You will be responsible for developing a strong narrative, employing sharp negotiation instincts, and demonstrating the patience to align demand-side growth with the capabilities of our driver base. You will also explore opportunities with flex buyers such as BRPs, aggregators, and energy traders as a potential next market for aggregated flexibility, and manage signed accounts in collaboration with Account Management to ensure partnerships remain on track.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to get a contract signed with a technical, commercially cautious counterpart, including negotiation of pricing structures, milestones, and mutual commitments.
  • Sufficient energy-market literacy to speak credibly about grid constraints, dynamic tariffs, and demand charges.
  • 5+ years of experience in business development, partnerships, or commercial negotiation, ideally in energy, e-mobility, or a related regulated market.
  • Understanding of energy-market and regulatory complexity (grid-operator requirements, balancing markets, BRP relationships) sufficient to translate it into a commercial proposition.
  • Experience structuring and closing B2B contracts with technical and financially sophisticated counterparts.
  • Ability to navigate long, multi-stakeholder sales cycles without losing momentum.
  • Capability to build a business case that balances CPO economics with Deftpower's commercial growth.
  • Ability to respectfully decline partners with good reasoning.

Responsibilities

  • Map and prioritize partners with the most to gain from a deal.
  • Build the commercial case and negotiate the contract that gets them on board.
  • Represent Deftpower in industry conversations, from first pitch to signed agreement.
  • Share what CPOs and flex buyers actually need with Product, so you keep selling something we can deliver.
  • Explore flex buyers (BRPs, aggregators, energy traders) as a next market for aggregated flexibility.
  • Manage signed accounts together with Account Management, keeping the partnership on track.

Benefits

  • Salary range: between €60.000,- and €90.000 on an annual basis
  • 25 vacation days
  • Choose your own laptop to work with (€1.750,-)
  • A flexible setup: hybrid working, short decision lines and trust
  • €2.000,- training budget a year
