About The Position

The Manager of Business Development & Grants will support ASTRO’s efforts to expand revenue, secure grant funding from foundations, corporations, government entities, and other institutional funders while cultivating strategic partnerships. This position will play an important role in identifying new business and grant funding opportunities, managing prospect research, supporting proposal development, and maintaining strong relationships with current and prospective partners. Reporting to the Director of Business Development, this position works in close collaboration with a larger Business Development and Corporate Relations team to enhance industry relations and identify grant funding opportunities. This position interacts with current ASTRO corporate partners and other key external stakeholders to sell, confirm, and manage fulfillment of sponsorships and exhibitor commitments. The Manager, Business Development and Grants establish and nurture valuable and trusting relationships that strengthen engagement within and across the Society.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, communications, public policy, marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in business development, fundraising, grants, nonprofit management, sales, partnerships, or a related field.
  • Experience in planning, leading and managing development projects, including collaborating with peers to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers across different levels of the organization.
  • Excellent oral, written and editing skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers.
  • Strong professional and positive demeanor.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Organized with ability to work simultaneously on multiple project deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Previous experience working with databases, an association management system and CRM.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and success in growing exhibit and sponsorship sales in the not-for-profit sector that allows the position to serve as a trusted consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Director of Business Development and Corporate Relations in raising non-dues revenue (more than $5 million) to fund ASTRO initiatives including the ASTRO Annual Meeting, specialty meetings, RO-ILS, partnerships.
  • Research and identify prospective corporate, foundation, government, and institutional partners aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Manage educational grants pertaining to continuing medical educational programs and other ASTRO projects as needed from submission to reconciliation.
  • Collaborate and support Speed of Light – The ASTRO Foundation - for projects as needed.
  • Increase grant base to meet and exceed revenue goals.
  • Maintain a grants calendar tracking application deadlines, reporting requirements, deliverables, and renewal opportunities.
  • Coordinate with internal program and finance teams to gather information and develop accurate and compelling grant submissions.
  • Draft and edit grant narratives, organizational descriptions, program summaries, and other funding materials.
  • Support the Director and senior leadership in managing relationships with corporate partners, foundations, funders, and other external stakeholders.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, briefing documents, talking points, presentations, and follow-up materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.
