About The Position

Toyota Financial Services (TFS) is seeking a permanent Business Data Steward to join its Data Governance function. This role will support Enterprise Data Management (EDM) practices within the Business Analytics department. The Business Data Steward will be responsible for researching and understanding data management needs, becoming an expert in various data domains, and facilitating Data Governance through Agile practices. The position is based at the Markham Head Office, with a hybrid work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management).
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated experience in data governance, data quality, metadata management, and/or master data management tools.
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and technology delivery best practices.
  • Excellent background in process improvements, operational management, and change management.
  • In-depth understanding of the Master Data Management technology landscape, processes, and design principles.
  • Solid understanding of key meta-data management, data quality, and data stewardship tools and platforms.
  • Proven track record in driving large data governance programs at an enterprise level.
  • Able to plan and organize effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written language and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent research, analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Team oriented, flexible and proactive.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Axon.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Business Data Steward experience in a Captive environment, and/or in the auto finance industry preferably in Accounting, Finance, Treasury, Tax, Insurance, or Servicing domains.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing data documentation to identify Critical Data Elements (CDEs) for EDP, define and document data definitions, data mapping, business rules, data classification, data quality (DQ) rules for CDEs.
  • Define data access requirements for EDP data.
  • Contribute to the establishment of historical data retention policy, compliance policy and security policy of EDP.
  • Identify and oversee the data quality issues within the scope of EDP, maintain issue repository, and manage resolution.
  • Support business users with data questions and facilitate discussion to help them understand EDP data and get access to EDP data required for their business decisions.
  • Support the Data Governance Steering Committee and data owners on other data governance related initiatives.
  • Post EDP project, continue working with stakeholders to implement and carry out actions outlined in the Data Governance Roadmap for the company to successfully implement Data Governance structure and processes, including building data glossaries, defining CDEs and DQ rules.
  • Spread data awareness across the organization and ensure data literacy and data-driven decisions are promoted to maximize the use and value of data for the business.
  • Support efforts to drive continuous improvement and implementation of data governance processes, policies, metadata, SOX and other compliance needs, MDM, data security, and compliance initiatives.
  • Work closely with the data owner to make sure data is protected and used for authorized purposes only.
  • Actively promote the use of accepted data definitions, common reference data, and sound data usage practices for data literacy campaigns.
  • Collaborate with business users and the technical team to make data availability easy and simple for users.
  • Implement and adopt data quality strategy, profile data assets, and define proactive and reactive DQ rules for specific domains.
  • Identify and oversee the data quality issues, maintain issue repository, and work with the technical team to manage resolution.
  • Perform audits to make sure data governance process and policies are followed diligently and identify data-related process improvement opportunities.
  • Performs audits to make sure data adheres to compliance and regulations.
  • Support efforts to build metadata repositories, business glossary, data lineage, and training materials.
  • Review enterprise data assets to define attributes, identify CDE and classify and establish KPIs for their domains.
