About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Staff Computer Systems Architect to serve as the Business Capability Architect - Mission Focused. This capability-aligned architecture role sits within Strategy and Architecture in the Governance & Strategy organization of the Chief Information & Digital Office. It spans organizational boundaries, solution portfolios, and enabling functions rather than focusing on a single project or system. The architect owns the current-state and target-state architecture for an enterprise mission-focused capability portfolio spanning Product Development, Product Support, and Manufacturing Management. The role guides capability evolution across engineering and product-development workflows, sustainment and support processes, manufacturing-management operations, and the data, platforms, and integration patterns needed to connect these domains into a coherent capability roadmap. The position is available as a virtual telecommuter, but the incumbent must be within 90 miles of a major Northrop Grumman location for ad hoc onsite meetings. Travel is 10% of the time. Relocation assistance is not available. No clearance is required to start; the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance as a condition of continued employment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or a related field and 12 or more years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree and 10 or more years; or a Ph.D. and 8 or more years.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance as a condition of continued employment.
  • Strong experience in architecture for business capabilities, product lifecycle environments, engineering or manufacturing ecosystems, sustainment or support processes, or complex cross-functional portfolios.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across organizational boundaries and connect target-state design to delivery planning and operational outcomes.
  • Experience creating roadmaps, patterns, and architecture guidance across multiple solutions, systems, products, or services.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and influence skills across business, engineering, operations, and technology organizations.
  • Ability to act as both strategist and practical architectural guide for a capability area spanning multiple related business capabilities.
  • Experience in regulated, security-conscious, or compliance-driven environments.
  • Knowledge of TOGAF ADM or other architecture frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of the Aerospace and Defense business domain.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in enterprise, business, domain, or capability architecture roles.
  • Experience supporting product development, engineering data management, sustainment, service or logistics support, manufacturing operations, production planning, or related mission-oriented processes.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, federal, or similarly regulated environments.
  • Experience mentoring delivery architects while maintaining common architecture standards.
  • Ability to connect business capability planning with operational execution, modernization investments, and end-to-end mission outcomes.
  • Experience working with matrixed stakeholders across engineering, operations, cybersecurity, applications, infrastructure, and analytics functions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Business Capability Architect for the combined mission-focused capability portfolio spanning Product Development, Product Support, and Manufacturing Management.
  • Define and maintain current-state and target-state architecture for supported mission-focused capabilities across the enterprise.
  • Develop capability roadmaps spanning systems, services, products, and initiatives that support engineering, manufacturing, sustainment, and support functions.
  • Translate enterprise standards, architecture methods, and target-state direction into capability-specific architecture guidance.
  • Identify dependencies, sequencing needs, reuse opportunities, and trade-offs across engineering, product-data, support, manufacturing, and operational technology-adjacent landscapes.
  • Guide solution and delivery teams so initiatives advance a coherent target state rather than optimize locally.
  • Partner with stakeholders across Governance & Strategy, Enterprise Applications, the Office of the Chief Engineer, manufacturing and operations, IT Infrastructure & Operations, CISO & Global Cybersecurity, Insights & Intelligence, and other relevant functions.
  • Support enterprise decision-making by clarifying capability outcomes, process implications, data dependencies, integration needs, and operating-model impacts tied to modernization.
  • Escalate enterprise-level standards conflicts, investment trade-offs, and cross-capability issues to the Business Architecture Lead and Head of Strategy & Architecture as appropriate.
  • Contribute patterns, lessons learned, and roadmap updates to the broader architecture practice.
