About The Position

This role combines the responsibilities of a Senior Underwriter and a Portfolio Manager within Business Banking, focusing on wholesale lending. The Underwriting aspect involves reviewing and approving loan requests up to $15MM, ensuring adherence to credit policy, financial analysis, risk evaluation, and proper loan structuring. The Portfolio Manager aspect focuses on effective credit administration, maintaining portfolio performance and asset quality, managing relationships between $1MM - $15MM, and resolving risk-related issues. The position requires a high degree of technical competency in credit analysis and independent work with periodic oversight.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience and exhibited high degree of technical competency in various aspects of commercial lending /portfolio management.
  • Comprehensive written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with financial analysis and credit structuring, understanding and applying credit policy, and credit monitoring and risk administration practices.
  • High level of credit and documentation experience.
  • Skilled in proposing and negotiating and recommending credit and covenant structures for approval.
  • Demonstrate practical and conceptual knowledge of credit and risk analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and underwriting loan requests under Commercial Credit Policy up to TCL $15MM.
  • Ensuring underwriting and recommendations are based on sound credit judgment with particular emphasis on adherence to credit policy and requirements, financial analysis/modeling, risk evaluation and mitigation and proper loan structuring.
  • Underwriting and recommending for approval to Credit Officers within SLAs and meeting production requirements.
  • Independently interacting with Senior Management, Sales Team, and Credit Officer, to discuss and resolve risk related issues.
  • Independently reviewing financials, proposed loan structure, collateral and due diligence and making recommendations of new money requests for approval.
  • Aggressively seeking alternative means of financing or counter offers for all borrowers when it is determined that the original request cannot be accommodated.
  • Performing the functions of the position with periodic oversight and expected to perform with reasonable to general supervisory intervention.
  • Ensuring overall portfolio performance and asset quality remains strong and independently developing strategies and actions to resolve issues that could increase risk and/or create loss for the Bank.
  • Managing relationships with TCL between $1MM - $15MM, with particular emphasis on larger (>$3MM) more complicated relationships.
  • Independently interacting with Senior Management, Sales Team, Credit Officer and CRM, in order to discuss and resolve risk related issues.
  • Direct interaction with customers may be required, in order to discuss and resolve risk related issues.
  • Independently reviewing financials and making recommendations for approval of annual review/renewal and/or modifications within delegated lending authority.
  • Evaluating appropriateness of loan structure with Relationship Managers as needed to meet client needs for new loans while ensuring the Bank’s credit risk profiles are maintained.
  • Assuring compliance with Commercial Credit Policy and Risk Acceptance Criteria.
  • Applying credit skills, product knowledge, industry analysis, and sound judgment to assess and manage credit risk effectively.
  • Exhibiting knowledge of various types of loan terms, structures, and conditions and understanding of loan documentation.
  • Demonstrating credit experience and skill set with complex credits, including various organizational structures, covenant structures and/or collateral structures.
  • Consistently adhering to all Service Level Agreements.
  • Assuming the responsibility to protect and preserve the integrity of the pooled or individual portfolio while assessing and managing risk, through the annual review process via recommendation.
  • Consistently adhering to all regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Accurately testing covenants and recognizing events of default while providing recommendations on strategy and action planning.
  • Effectively supporting high quality credit file documentation in a paperless environment.
  • Effectively tracking and monitoring financial statement requirements; reviewing Borrowing Base certificates.
