About The Position

The Business Applications Analyst’s role is to plan, develop and launch efficient business systems in support of core organizational functions and business processes. This includes gathering and analyzing data in support of business needs, proposed projects and systems requirements. The Business Application Analyst also works closely with key stakeholders to define business systems requirements and identifying solutions to business issues. The position will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to maximize the benefit of information technology investments.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in management information systems, business administration, computer related education, or at least three-years’ experience in the job.
  • Skills in overseeing the design, development and implementation of software and hardware solutions.
  • Project Management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, listening and communications skills. Ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical users in verbal and written form.
  • Knowledge of relational database development concepts including data warehouses.
  • Knowledge of common software applications, database applications and report writers including MS Office, Outlook, Access, SQL Server, Cognos, Office 365, SharePoint, fillable form creation, video editing software, staff scheduling software, , flowcharting software, and Visio.
  • Travel is required. Must have a valid New York State Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Works with decision makers, systems owners and end users to define business operational requirements and provide technology solutions to maximize efficiency and provide management information for decision making.
  • Analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems and develops strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Assists key stakeholders in the planning, design, development and deployment of new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
  • Works directly with managers and the key stakeholders by developing end-user solutions that do not require high-level technical expertise through the use of standard toolsets such as Access, Excel, Cognos, SQL, etc.
  • Create accounts and manage security in business applications
  • Work closely with agency leadership and other key staff to create fillable forms to enhance agency processes.
  • Coordinate and train staff on Office 365 applications.
  • Gather business requirements for new application development and change requests
  • Detect, analyze, troubleshoot, and correct technical problems to ensure integrity of data
  • Coordinates the technical relationship for outsourced applications.
  • Identify ways to reduce cost by streamlining processes and systems
  • Drive awareness of change management activity for IS ensuring that the business impact of change activity is understood and risks to business processing highlighted.
  • Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Agency’s culture, values and mission.
  • Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
