About The Position

The Business and Entrepreneurship High School Teacher is responsible for student learning and supervision in collaboration with colleagues, counseling staff and administration. This role involves advising and guiding students regarding academic, personal, spiritual, and vocational concerns, and requires a passion for fulfilling the King’s Schools mission and vision. A key aspect of this position is serving as the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) advisor, focusing on maximizing educational and occupational opportunities for high school students enrolled in DECA. The teacher will prepare students to compete at DECA competitions and leadership trips with curriculum standards in marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. The role ensures students are academically prepared, community-oriented, professionally responsible, and experienced leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education or equivalent. Experience may be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree as long as the bachelor’s degree is scheduled to be completed within 1 year of hire.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach assigned content with intellectual depth, clarity, and alignment to a Christ-centered educational philosophy.
  • Previous teaching experience at the secondary level with strong classroom management skills
  • Maintain professional certification and endorsements as required by King’s Schools and the State of Washington.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Grading software and Homework webpage.
  • Ability to pass background checks relating to DSHS Secretary’s List of Crimes and Negative Actions. ( WAC 388-113 ).
  • Dress appropriately for area of service and keep in mind responsibility as an adult role model and representative of CRISTA Ministries to various constituencies.
  • Maintain professional standards.
  • Remain alert to academic developments and be a continuing student of the educative process.
  • Attend regularly scheduled devotions, meetings, and assigned conferences with parents or professionals.
  • Arrive at school ½ hour prior to start and stay ½ hour after completion of school daily unless excused by prearrangement or official school business requires early arrival or late departure.
  • Maintain an active interest in the church (local and worldwide) and community affairs and represent the school effectively in these areas.
  • Belief that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
  • Is a committed Christian who is dedicated to continued spiritual growth and development as evidenced through a growing personal walk with God (e.g. daily spiritual rhythms of prayer, fellowship, Bible study, etc.).
  • Prayerfully seeks God’s will in their own lives and in their ministry at CRISTA.
  • Engages our ministry including staff and colleagues through prayer, participation in spiritual practices, leading devotionals and other spiritual practices.
  • Affirms, aligns with and supports CRISTA’s Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Statement (CCC).
  • Conducts themselves in a manner which reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).

Responsibilities

  • Lead classes in daily prayer.
  • Instruct and be available to lead and support students’ spiritual formation.
  • Oversee and support chapel attendance and students’ spiritual engagement at chapel.
  • Provide professional and Christ centered teaching and innovation in regard to best practices, standards alignment, assessment, differentiation and digital learning.
  • Collaborate and work to fulfill established school, departmental and classroom goals.
  • Follow established school protocols (IE: teaching, learning, and student/parent communication and engagement.
  • Pursue biblical growth both professionally and personally.
  • Relate teaching and learning to truth and a Christian worldview by encouraging and practicing Christ like behavior in responses to faith, empathy, and obedience.
  • Advise and guide students to resources regarding academic, personal, spiritual, and vocational concerns.
  • Confer with students, parents, and administration regarding students of concern.
  • Participate in committees, professional learning communities and relevant school activities as assigned.
  • Update and maintain online gradebook and homework communication.
  • Champion and oversee student-led enterprise as it relates to service for the school community.
  • Provide mentoring, supervision and support for students, assisting them in goal setting while preparing for DECA competitions.
  • Attend DECA contests and leadership trips during the season.
  • Support other related activities for the purpose of providing information regarding the program.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars, gathering information that can be used to mentor students who engage in DECA.
  • Oversee other faculty advisors in organizing and supervising a core group of students meeting regularly to brainstorm ideas and plan projects for the upcoming year.
  • Educate students on topics such as marketing, business management and administration, finance, hospitality and tourism or civil procedure.
  • Assist students and parents with any questions or concerns they may have regarding the curriculum of the program.
  • Provide up to date information on competition travel information, important dates and overall content being taught.
  • Provide administrative support to students involved in projects or club activities, making sure they have resources and accurate knowledge that will set them up for success.
  • Perform other related duties for the DECA program including, but not limited to: Financial statements, purchasing, reconciling receipts, ordering supplies.
  • Booking travel arrangements for off campus events.
  • Organize and assure all necessary forms and documents for participation are filled out correctly.
  • Coordinate the high school student internship program, including the development and facilitation of placements with CRISTA ministries, King’s Schools, and high school faculty/departments.
  • Partner with internal staff and community stakeholders to ensure structured, supervised internship experiences that support students’ career exploration and professional skill development.
  • Develop a plan of action for fundraising and budgeting, focusing on maintaining and balancing activity accounts.
  • Supervise students at all sponsored related events, ensuring proper student behavior in accordance with King’s policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with supervisor, coworkers and customers.
  • Conduct that reflects well on CRISTA Ministries and aligns with its mission, vision, Statement of Faith and Christian Community Representative Commitment (CCC).
