About The Position

Unique : The Workday Enterprise Solutions Team (WEST) is responsible for the administration and optimization of Workday and related systems (including, but not limited to Workday Finance, Reporting, EAP, and Workday Adaptive Planning) for Finance, Human Resources, and Research Administration across the Universities of Wisconsin System, while focusing on people, processes, and technology. This team will concentrate on continuous improvement and system maintenance, release enhancements, support, and strategic integration of the Workday ERP and related systems to achieve business objectives. Senior Business Analysts will support one or more teams within the WEST team. Activities may include leading the review, redesign and optimization of complex business processes, security policies, reports, and other system functionality, including ancillary and bolt-on IT systems. Senior Business Analysts will be responsible for system maintenance, design, configuration, testing and the successful implementation of Workday releases. They will also evaluate additional features and systems to enhance user experience, compliance, research and analyze data patterns to troubleshoot or highlight areas of improvement, write reports and develop requirements for integrations or other technical solutions. The Senior Business Systems Analyst serves a vital role within WEST. This position involves the following duties: Identify, recommend, and implement programs and solutions to meet business objectives while balancing cost, performance, and resource constraints. Work on tasks including project or functional requirements, functional/technical design, configuration, testing, and process documentation Lead and facilitate requirements gathering sessions with key stakeholders and subject matter experts, ensuring alignment with business goals Drive the design and modification of complex business information systems, document requirements, and resolve system logic challenges. Formulate and define systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with a strong understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements Support and triage end-user issues, ensuring a seamless user experience and prompt resolution of any system-related challenges. Serve as a strategic ERP advisor to leadership, offering insights and recommendations on system capabilities and optimizations. Lead and conduct complex data analysis to ensure data management objectives are met and recommend improvements Develop and manage project timelines, provide stakeholder communications, and deliver training to ensure successful system adoption and operational continuity. Provide leadership and mentorship to lower level staff, guiding them through complex tasks and projects. Participate in Workday release analysis, regression testing coordination, and deployment readiness activities. Assess system impacts of new functionality and recommend adoption strategies. Partner with governance teams and functional leadership to evaluate enhancement requests, define priorities, and align system changes to strategy. Support annual budget, forecast, and allocation cycles within Workday Adaptive Planning, ensuring system readiness and data integrity. Collaborate with campus finance leaders to optimize planning models, assumptions, and reporting structures. To be successful in this position, you will need to intentionally collaborate with peers across WEST and work to actively foster a respectful, inclusive and safe team environment. Schedule will be determined with the selected finalist upon hire. Primary schedule will be during business hours on Monday through Friday, beginning no later than 9:00AM CST and ending no earlier than 3:00PM CST, with an on-call or weekend rotation as required by the department. This position is designated as fully remote and may be performed at an offsite, non‑campus work location. Work schedule and remote work expectations will be finalized during the offer process with the selected candidate.

Requirements

  • Knowledge / experience in implementing and supporting enterprise resource planning (ERP) or large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge / experience in analyzing business needs and recommending relevant solutions, including policy, process, or system improvements.
  • Experience translating business requirements into system configuration or technical design specifications.
  • Ability to perform complex data analysis.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge / experience in implementing and supporting financial planning systems, including Workday Adaptive Planning.
  • Experience in concepts of budgeting and financial planning and analysis, especially in a higher education or public sector environments.
  • Experience supporting system releases, regression testing, and production support activities.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams in a complex organizational environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage timelines and plans for projects and operational activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support annual budget, forecast, and allocation cycles within Adaptive Planning, ensuring system readiness, data integrity, and alignment with campus financial planning processes.
  • Collaborate with finance leadership and governance groups to evaluate system enhancements, prioritize change requests, and align configuration decisions with institutional strategy.
  • Lead configuration, testing, and deployment readiness of solutions for Workday Adaptive Planning, Workday Reporting, and Data Integration. Includes analysis of biannual Workday releases and coordination of regression testing activities.
  • Provides guidance to lower level staff in the design, development, and implementation of data reporting and business intelligence systems
  • Develops and assesses opportunities for new unit staff training opportunities
  • Makes recommendations in the selection of technology solutions to align with business strategies
  • Provides advanced procedural and technical guidance to unit staff regarding technology usage and management
  • Provides direction for the mapping of business processes using advanced process-mapping methodologies
  • Designs, develops, and implements complex data reporting and business intelligence systems
  • Serves as a subject matter expert to institutional and unit leadership on critical technology issues
  • Serves as a project lead for lower level IT staff providing guidance on specific project goals, outcomes, and technological components
  • Performs complex data analyses and reporting
