Business Analyst, IT platforms

PlanitarWaterloo, ON

About The Position

Planitar is looking for a curious, driven, and service-oriented Business Analyst to join our growing team, acting as a trusted partner to our Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, and Engineering teams. The Business Analyst is responsible for understanding how our business runs, identifying where processes and systems can better support our growth, and translating those insights into clear requirements and recommendations. This role sits between the business and IT — helping departments articulate what they need, shaping solutions that fit, and working with IT to bring those solutions to life. You'll spend your time talking to people, mapping workflows, documenting requirements, and helping teams get more value from the tools they already use — including Netsuite (Finance), Smartsheets (Managed Services), ZenDesk (Product Support), HubSpot (Sales & Marketing), and BambooHR (People & Culture).

Requirements

  • Business Analysis: Skilled at uncovering the real problem behind the stated one, and shaping it into a well-defined solution.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Builds trust and credibility with people at all levels; turns operational needs into clear, actionable requirements.
  • Process Orientation: Sees the end-to-end flow of work and designs clear, repeatable processes that improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Systems Thinking: Understands how tools, workflows, and data interconnect, and anticipates the downstream impact of changes.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Diagnoses issues methodically and proposes practical, scalable solutions.
  • Communication & Training: Explains concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences; promotes adoption through coaching and support.
  • Change Agility: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, shifting priorities, and evolving business needs.
  • Attention to Detail: Maintains accuracy and rigor in documentation, requirements, and analysis.
  • Proactive Ownership: Takes initiative to identify improvement opportunities and drive them through to completion.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in a business analyst or similar role, ideally supporting cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record of gathering requirements, mapping processes, and supporting the implementation of business systems.
  • Familiarity with SaaS business applications such as Smartsheets, ZenDesk, HubSpot, Netsuite, or similar (working knowledge is sufficient — you don't need to be an administrator).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for translating between business and technical audiences.
  • Excellent documentation habits and a structured, detail-oriented approach.
  • Comfort working with IT partners on solution design, without being expected to build or configure systems yourself.

Nice To Haves

  • Business Analysis certification (CBAP, CCBA, PMI-PBA, or similar)

Responsibilities

  • Partner with department leaders and subject matter experts to understand their workflows, pain points, and goals.
  • Elicit, document, and prioritize business requirements through interviews, workshops, and process mapping.
  • Translate business needs into clear functional requirements, user stories, and process documentation that IT and vendors can act on.
  • Support new system implementations, upgrades, and rollouts — including requirements definition, user acceptance testing, change management, training, and post-launch review.
  • Act as a go-to resource for business process questions across Planitar's core operational tools.
  • Develop and maintain clear process documentation, standard operating procedures, and user-facing guides.
  • Deliver training and ongoing guidance to employees to drive adoption and consistent use of tools and processes.
  • Continuously look for opportunities to streamline, simplify, and improve how work gets done across teams.
  • Partner with IT to ensure recommended solutions align with security, compliance, and data privacy standards.
