About The Position

This role is part of the Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) branch within the department of Treasury Board and Finance (TBF). OSI plays a key role in planning, consolidating, developing, and promoting Alberta’s demographic, economic, and social statistics to support evidence-based decision-making across government. You will be part of the Workforce Reporting and Analytics (WRA) team, which partners with client ministries, including Human Resources (HR) and Finance, to deliver reporting and analytics services. The team works closely with stakeholders to transform data into meaningful insights that support workforce planning and organizational decision-making across the Alberta Public Service (APS). We are looking for a Business Analyst/Business Intelligence Consultant who excels in communication, facilitation, and delivering client-focused solutions. In this role, you will act as a strategic advisor and trusted partner, working closely with business stakeholders to understand challenges and identify how data can support informed decision-making. You will play a key role in bridging the gap between business and technical teams, ensuring requirements are clearly defined, effectively communicated, and translated into practical reporting solutions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys consulting, stakeholder engagement, and presenting insights, with a strong interest in using data visualization to tell clear and compelling stories. Understanding government structures, policies and procedures, as well as a working level knowledge of HR directives, policies, legislation, and workforce data will also be beneficial to you in this role. Note: This role focuses primarily on consultation, business analysis, and front-end dashboard visualization, with collaboration alongside technical experts who support the back-end data development.

Requirements

  • University graduation in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Statistics, Human Resources, or a related field plus a minimum of 2 years progressively responsible related experience in business analysis and requirements elicitation.
  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
  • Strong experience in business analysis, stakeholder engagement, and requirements elicitation.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate discussions and translate business needs into practical solutions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data and reporting concepts.
  • Adept use of technology, including Microsoft Office Suite applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead stakeholder consultations to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
  • Facilitate discussions and workshops to clarify business needs, priorities, and reporting objectives.
  • Act as a liaison between business and technical teams, ensuring shared understanding of requirements and outcomes.
  • Design and develop clear, intuitive dashboards and visualizations that support decision-making.
  • Translate complex data into accessible, user-friendly insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Provide recommendations and options analysis to support business planning and decision-making.
  • Deliver presentations and communicate insights to senior leadership and executive audiences.
  • Support project activities including planning, user acceptance testing (UAT), and implementation.
  • Manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced, evolving environment
