About The Position

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is a Fortune 500 company and a leading provider of corrugated packaging products. They are seeking a Business Accountant for their Los Angeles-Vernon, CA location. This role is designed to provide experience in the corrugated industry, with the goal of advancing to a Plant Accountant or Plant Controller position within PCA. The company emphasizes a "golden rule" culture, promoting respectful and ethical relationships with employees and customers. PCA is one of the largest producers of containerboard and corrugated packaging in the U.S., offering broad expertise and economies of scale.

Requirements

  • BS degree in accounting required.
  • 1-5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Broad understanding of accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Some travel to other PCA locations will be required (up to 25%-40%).
  • Willingness to relocate to other operating locations in California or beyond, for future promotion opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Area Controller and local Plant Controller to proactively provide information that will help the plant increase revenue and improve profitability, as well as respond to specific requests from the management team.
  • Perform monthly analysis and reporting of financial performance.
  • Understand and communicate revenue details, product and customer profitability reporting, financial analysis of proposed products, customers, and business models with pricing and cost data.
  • Manage accounts payable, invoicing, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and month-end close.

  • Starting salary range: $70,400 - $105,600
  • Annual Bonus based upon individual contribution and overall Company performance.
