Pay Details: 1st Year: $25.37/hour Thereafter: $31.24 Work Schedule: Extra Board - To be discussed in interview. Up to 60 hours a week. PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Supervisor-Bus Services or designee, drives a bus to transport passengers over specified routes according to time schedules. Must also drive small coaches used to operate the Access Express System for disabled passengers.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of one-year experience driving large vehicles is required.
• Must have a valid Missouri CDL permit.
• Must be able to obtain and complete the followings within three months: CDL license Air brakes and passenger endorsement Assigned training program or related classes
• Ability to Operate a large vehicle in a proper and safe manner.
• Ability to Present a neat appearance and pleasant attitude.
• Ability to Work closely with the public.
• Ability to Make sound judgment in a tense situation.
• Ability to Prepare records and reports.
• Ability to Be dependable and work varying schedules, due to the need of the position.
• Ability to Provide good customer service to customers and fellow employees.
• Ability to Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems.
• Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.
• Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, stooping, crouching, reaching, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting.
• Must be able to step up and down bus steps to assist disabled passengers on and off the bus.
• Manual deployment of the wheelchair ramp requires being able to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain DOT medical certification.
• Subject to Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Program requirements.
• Required to wear uniform clothing provided by City Utilities.
• Must be able to work both daytime and nighttime hours, split shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
• Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
• Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.

Nice To Haves

• Special training in the operation of diesel-powered transit bus or heavy-duty trucks is preferred.
• Knowledge of the city street system preferred.
• Excellent customer service skills including the ability to interact with people in a positive, courteous manner.
• Project a positive image of the Utility to the public.
• Good public relations/communications skills.
• Maintain adherence to all company policies.

Responsibilities

• Conducts bus safety check at the beginning of and during the shift to assure all safety equipment is in place and operational. Reports major mechanical problems immediately and minor problems at the end of the shift.
• Complies with all local, state, and federal laws relating to bus operation. Reports delays in maintaining route schedule, detours, and all accidents or injuries as soon as possible.
• Operates bus in a safe, reliable manner to provide a smooth comfortable trip for bus passengers. Regulates heating, air conditioning, lighting, and ventilating systems for passenger comfort.
• Answers inquiries regarding schedules, routes, transfer points, and street locations. Maintains order on the bus. Complies with utility safety rules and regulations. Assists disabled passengers onto both the fixed route buses and the Access Express System. Must follow all federal laws in accordance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA). Knowledge of and ability to operate all operational and ADA related equipment.
• Collects fares and prepares reports for each run or trip worked that day. Prepares accident/incident, first aid, and delay reports at end of the shift and forwards to Bus Supervisor. Files police reports as needed. Performs all necessary training provided and required through City Utilities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
