About The Position

Functions as a Customer Service Ambassador for the Municipality of Anchorage and the People Mover System by providing safe, efficient, and quality transportation service to our customers and the public. Transports customers by operating any type of revenue vehicle during regularly scheduled routes and special service routes while observing safety rules and regulations, State and Municipal laws, and route time schedules. Responds to inquiries and assist customers with various information and help. Operates the fare collection equipment, mobile display computers and head signs. Ensures an automatic stop announcement system is working or announces major stops and transfer points in the event of system malfunction to ensure customers are aware of stops along the routes. Assist people with mobility devices as required and secures mobility devices in accordance with policy. Administer People Mover policy and procedure in special circumstances (e.g., service interruption, emergencies etc.). Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and have at least one (1) year of experience as a licensed motor vehicle operator.
  • Must possess a valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B (or greater) with an Unrestricted Passenger Endorsement, No Air Brake Restriction, and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Applicants with a restriction of "L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only" are not eligible.
  • OR A valid State of Alaska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B (or greater) with an Unrestricted Passenger Permit (must obtain passenger endorsement within 30 days of hire), No Air Brake Restriction, and satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
  • Applicants with a restriction of “L-Vehicles Without Air Brake Systems Only” are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States.
  • Must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran if wishing to be considered for interview preference.
  • Must attach proof of current service if currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves and wishing to be considered for interview preference.
  • Must provide certain identification information and be fingerprinted.
  • Must provide names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years.

  • Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment.
  • The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service.
  • The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
