About The Position

Join the City of Culver City Transportation Department as a Bus Operator Trainee. This role offers a $3,000 sign-on bonus paid in milestones and an incentive for possessing or obtaining a California Class B license. The City of Culver City is a Charter City with approximately 800 employees providing a full range of municipal services. The Transportation Department manages seven bus routes serving Culver City and surrounding West Los Angeles County communities. Bus Operators safely transport passengers daily between 5:00 AM and 12:30 PM.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • No more than one (1) moving violation within the last three (3) years prior to closing date and up to the date of appointment.
  • No traffic accidents reported on the DMV (K-4) printout within the last three (3) years prior to closing date and up to the date of appointment. If an accident was not your fault, acceptable proof must be attached.
  • No arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs that result in a criminal conviction within the last three (3) years prior to closing date and up to the date of appointment.
  • No administrative suspension or revocation of driver's license for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs within the last three (3) years prior to closing date and up to the date of appointment.
  • A valid California Class "C" driver's license is required at time of application.
  • Attach copies of all relevant licenses and/or certificates to the application.
  • Submit an online application by the filing deadline of 5:00 PM, Friday, August 28, 2026.
  • Provide a Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) driving record dated within the last 30 days (K-4 document).

Nice To Haves

  • Possessing a valid California Class B license with passenger endorsement and medical certificate card upon hire.
  • Obtaining a valid California Class B license with passenger endorsement and medical certificate card during the 8-week training program.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport passengers daily.
  • Complete an 8-week training program.
  • Obtain a valid California Class B license with passenger endorsement and medical certificate card during training.
  • Be available to work any time between 4:30 AM and 1:00 AM, seven days a week, including holidays.
  • Work up to 39 hours per week.
